    So it's just a gamified Redmine (or any other arbitrary ticketing system like Jira) but with the exact same workflow. Replace the term "card" with the term "ticket" and "hand" with the term "Assigned to myself" and "deck" with the term "sub projects", "threads" is just the comment section of a ticket. All the rest you don't even have to rename: Milestones are milestones, projects are projects. I am not sure I get the benefits over just having an own self-hosted Redmine that is free forever for every team size and also comes with integrated wiki for every project. Can you enlighten me? Even Jira allows for up to 10 free users. Why would I want to use Codecks over those solutions?

    I like this over generic software development solutions because of the Discord integration, that can be a very handy time saver for community submitted bugs, not to mention the ability to selectively make some decks public so it can be used for things like letting your players see what you're currently working on and your progress. This community-centric possible approach to it is why I moved to this tool. Maybe 11mo ago when you commented it was just a trello reskin, it's definitely a lot more than that now though.

    Funny - there you know that bunch of people and you don't know, they have such a fancy tool... Need to give it a try. Mensch - Maschine (Human-Machine) is a name based on the name of an album of Kraftwerk and they made Curiouse Expidition I and II, nice guys. Studio Fizbin does classic point and click adventure games, like The Inner World, both share an office space called "Saftladen", which translates literally as "juice shop", but plays with the second meaning for a shop being not very good. One of my ex bosses was a mentor for Fizbin. Small industry, especially here in germany.

    I use Trello. In my opinion, the main idea of it more or less the same as Trello, but Trello has more features. If you think of projects as boards, decks as lists and cards as cards - then you realize there isn't all that much difference. Trello gives you unlimited boards (projects) for free, this gives you only 5. Trello has something called "power-ups" which are basically plugins that offer more functionality. Free users can use only one at at a time. Paying customers more. I never use any since base Trello get's the job done, for my purposes.

    In our experience (and after talking with hundreds of developers) we know that with Trello you'll eventually reach a point where the number of open tasks (and bugs) is so high that it gets very hard to keep track of everything. Which features would you say Trello has that we're missing? They definitely don't have a Discord integration like we do 😉

  • @FM_GOBi

    @FM_GOBi

    @@Codecks The main one would be the fact that as a single user, I can make unlimited boards. If I understand correctly, they limit teams to 10 boards, but individuals can make as many as they wish - in the free version. If you guys could match that, there would be no reason for Indies to use Trello for Game Dev over your service.

  • @Codecks

    @Codecks

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@FM_GOBi With our free plan you can create up to 5 projects, but the number of decks (think of them as folders) and cards for each project is unlimited. This is enough to manage the production of a mid-sized commercial indie game (again speaking from direct experience). Pro (paid) users have no limitation to the number of projects. That being said, we're still it's possible that we will revise the current limitations in the future, so thanks for your feedback!

    @@Codecks I think indies and freelancers would appreciate unlimited "projects" for managing small projects. Since we usually work on lot's of small tasks, rather then really large tasks like big companies - who I imagine are the main paying customer. I'll be honest, the aesthetic of your service appeals to me more then Trello. I would likely switch to it just for that reason, but as a freelancer, I appreciate Trello letting me spam up lot's of small Kanban boards.

    Although I like the enthusiasm of it, the gamification feels a bit too much and too specific. Almost distracting away from being able to execute development management effectively. I wonder if there is a point one goes too far with the gamification to the point its no longer agnostic enough to deal with all development management needs and requirements. Most likely it's better compared to Trello. But I'm not convinced when compared to Jira and HacknPlan.

    Isn't every project a plan hack...at least in the beginning? Have you signed up and tried it? Its actually quite fun and useful. I think the biggest thing I've found so far is it offers the stuff we all use almost daily and removes the bloat we rarely (if ever) concern ourselves with. Basically, it gets the job done. I'm toying around with it now and its very intuitive. So far it has everything I can think of to manage a project. Let me know if you think otherwise. I would be interested to know what you think its missing.

    @@codersexpo1580 Hack'N'Plan is a similar thing to this, project management for game devs that integrates GitHub and such. It doesn't use cards like this, though. It's a lot closer to trello, and has different sections for design docs and such (Although the metrics breakdown are a thing I find particularly useful when making sure people don't get overworked). I've been using the free version of Hack'n'Plan for the last few years, but this does seem like an interesting option

Lesson learned. Can't link directly without risking my whole channel. If something went wrong with codecks and their URL got hijacked and redirected to bad content, boom channel strike It's weapons grade stupid but that's KZread.
