What sets apart the Garlands LP from any other CT's work is Heggie's thunderous, brooding bass lines. They dominate the song structure and they set the tone. Shallow then Halo, Garlands, Blind Dumb Deaf and this one are all perfect representatives of bass driven melodic structure. In Shallow then Halo, in particular, in the first minute of the song the only melody heard comes from the bass and Liz's voice.

As much as I love Simon and all he brought to the Twins, the driving, melodic awesomeness of Will’s lines is unquestionable and I really would have loved to hear what his influence on the band’s sonic evolution would have been. I sometimes imagine what certain later songs might have been like with one of Will’s bass lines driving them...🤔

Liz absolutely owns it, and Will heggies phenomenal bass line so critical to early CT sound. Absolutely luv it! Simon Raymonde brilliant, but cant imagine 'Garlands" without Will, He got the ball rolling.

Man, I can't stop watching and listening to this. This performance is amazing, want to hear that bassline intro again and again and again. Liz is so into the vibe of the song. Shivers down my spine. And now I'm going to watch it once again. And again.

Brilliant. Never seen Liz move so much. I saw them at Sadlers Wells and she was like a statue.

Omg i love this song and its fuckin atmosphere. But most important thing i thought she couldnt do these vibratos in live but she could. She is really an angel.

The bass is heavenly!

Love it when a singer is POSSESSED by a song. She was so crippled by stage fright. Watching them was always such a tense experience. She hates this. But the song comes through that. It took a toll on her but... wow! Hope she's happy now.

Intro . . . goosebumps. As if watching a really important moment in history, like mozart premiering a symphony.

Haha I never understood labels in music mate. I grew up listening to metal, punk, hard-core, classical, etc. People will see me with a Maiden shirt and the next day will be Joy Division. They asked me if I was metal, gothic, I was always say I am ME!

I only just discovered this video and it gave me the same chills down my spine as when I first heard it. 1980. I had read the album reviews, so off to the university bookshop and record store, headphones secured, and then this otherworldly magic begins to play...

Wow !!! The more I hear this Song the More I wanna hear it again and again it’s like the most simple 80s Masterpiece.

This is incredible! Liz is my top inspiration for vocals. She brought such originality and extreme talent, so badass! I'm so grateful to have discovered CT at the time that I did. Absolutely life-changing for me.

Saw her live at the Barrowlands for the Heaven or Las Vegas tour, supported by Dolphin City, the night I was there was special, Liz's parents were in the rear of the audience as it was her birthday that day, she was so happy they were there and by god we felt it too. What a show!!

Huh!
