#COCOREADOAmbassadors

Like every Saturday morning, COCOREADO Ambassador Peter Schön visits the local farmers market of Oberwart (A). Farmers markets have been around for centuries but their importance decreased drastically with the rise of supermarkets. Nowadays in many rural as well as urban areas, they are rarely found and often the products are offered at a high price.
Originally farmers' markets are meant to provide the daily necessities for people, by the farmer to the consumer, directly! This allows for exchange between both parties about the range and quality of products as well as the pricing. Ultimately this helps to build trust and guarantees that the farmer receives a fair price.
The market in the video is located in a south-eastern Austrian town, near the Hungarian border, and is a wonderful example of a vibrant farmers market in the 21st century. This age-old concept is a feasible strategy for future food systems, among many other ideas COCOREADO is investigating.
