39 years later still utterly sublime!!!

I remember this track when it came out. Up there with the best on the New Zealand music charts of 1983. An absolute classic !!!

Looooooooved this song when i was 16 and still love it today. Best 80s song out of nz , sharon oneils Maxine is close 2nd. Kia ora!

I visited NZ a few years ago and I would hear this on the radio. It pops up in my head every so often. I live in the US and I sing it under my breath once in a while and my friends are like "what song is that?" and I tell them it's the Sierra Leone song. 😂 They don't know what I'm talking about so I decided to look it up and realized it's a NZ 80s band and the song probably never made it into mainstream here lol

Every Kiwi of a certain age would immediately recognise it. Check out Pop Mechanix "Jumping out a Window" and "Celebration of the Skin" for some other great Kiwi songs of the '80s. PS. Coconut Rough was a coconut-flavoured chocolate block.

I loved this song so much I named my daughter Cierra (changed the spelling of Sierra so she won’t get teased at school) Leone after the song.

The guitar is fuking awesome in the song..and the bass line is mean

used to annoy my brother by singing this badly at him when we were kids - classic song

my first job in tv was as stage hand / dogsbody / emergency presenter on a local Channel 10 pop music show called TRAX... And this now obscure song was its theme. Permanently burned into my head obviously. That's about all I have to say about that. ...waits for next victim to sit next to him on park bench...
