Cocoa Puffs changed after 1980. They use to have a very light frosting on them and they were hollow. Sometime around 1980 or a little after they changed them to what we have today. If you look close you can see.

Sonny the Cuckoo Bird is the official mascot of General Mills' Cocoa Puffs cereal for over 60 years since 1962. Cocoa Puffs introduced in 1956 are the Naturaly Chocolate Flavored Frosted Corn and Rice Puffed Grain Breakfast Cereal made with Real Hershey's Cocoa on several occasions in its recepie. I think it’s kinda funny how Sonny is the exact opposite of the Trix Rabbit. All the rabbit wants is to eat his favorite cereal, but no one will give it to him. All Sonny wants is to stop eating his favorite cereal, but people keep giving it to him.
