the supervisor wouldnt have changed this call and the ump knew it and knew this was an opinion situation not a rules question.. the ump obviously know if she missed the return after the out call that it would be cocos point, but the umps opinion (albeit wrong) was that he called it out simultaneously with the return thus distracting the returner.. it was a tough break for coco but in real time the umps can make mistakes … a bad call yes, but this was NOT a rules question and therefore he can deny coco the supervisor which just

Either Rules of opinion situation,the ball was in before he called it out. And if he knew twas a mistake he'd called the supervisor for further and better clarification,not argue with so much negative and it looked alot malicious

Coco was right. The umpire is too proud to admit he was wrong. Pliskova also knew the call came after she hit the ball, so she should have conceded the point.

She was actually correct in her complaint. The call came after Pliskova hit the ball and it was Coco’s point and she has a right to ask for the referee and the umpire denied that. I hope he apologies like he said he would after reviewing the vid after the match.

We've seen this in other matches over the decades of course, the tournament and tour organisers will look at this and decide his future as an umpire or otherwise, not us.

Very true. The umpire made a mistake & he wasn't man enuf to admit it. He cld simply have asked that the point be replayed & avoided all the argie-baggie. Worse, Pliskova was laffing (3:19) which is just plain rude & insensitive. As the older/more-experienced player, my respect for her wld have gone thru the roof if she had stepped-in, conceeded the point & end the argument immediately. That wld have been so classy. Winning sometimes isn't always everything. But now, we see how classless she is. Thankfully, Coco smashed her!

Another good reason to use Cyclops to judge a match. No human error and no need for a stubborn judge, that should have gotten a supervisor, review the point and understand he made a mistake. Point is over.

In baseball a manager can ask for an appeal on a close play apart from balls and strikes because not all strike zones are the same but in tennis an in ball and an out ball are clearly one or the other.

Some of these Umpires should leave their biased and whatever at home when coming to officiate the tennis 🎾 ball matches. Our own Coco Guaff is right but that man is wrong! What's the big deal? Coco Guaff said call the supervisor, why not?

How fast was the service ball traveling.I see serves over well over 100 miles an hr.Are you saying that the receiver does not try to return the service,that they are such a electronic hawkeye that they can tell that the serve is going out so don't bother trying to hit it?.Just hope it was out !.If the receiver hit the ball and the serve was called out then it should be the receivers point,if the server disputes the call and asks for the hawkeye and it shows the ball was in then it would be the servers point or a replay.In fairness if I was the ref I would ask for a replay.Something with the rules does not seem very bright.

This is the third time she has had to fight for something she was 100% correct about! Either hire competent umpires or take control out of their hands! I'm starting to believe they are intentionally picking on her.

This tournament DOES have Hawkeye, but it's not enough these days. Electronic line calls would've made this a non-issue. The umpire wouldn't have been able to pull that mess. Doha has electronic line calls and everything is much more straightforward. 2025 can't come soon enough. Every tournament on the ATP & WTA will be required to have electronic line calling. No more umpire & lines person bias.

All lines will be called by the computer starting in 2025 so this issue will go away then.
