He's my neighbor. He lost his brakes at the top of the hill, when he got to the run-away ramp, he was going too fast and had a full load. He thought he was going to roll the truck if he turned into the ramp. He saw the concrete barrier and thought that it would be the only way to stop the truck without hurting anyone else. He had the air horn on all the way down and was glad that the red pickup moved out of the way. He saw the car and swerved enough to side swipe it, the car's driver was okay. He braced himself against the dash and walked away with bruised ribs (maybe broken).

Brakes failed at the top of the hill, he attempted to take the runaway ramp but it was partly blocked by traffic and he feared rolling taking too aggresive of a turn: he used his horn the whole way down and using a calm head avoided any major collisions actually opting into hitting the concrete barrier to bring himself to a stop and to prevent hitting anyone else. This was the second large truck to fail on this hill this same year.

Most end dumps I encounter on our highways and streets are always traveling to fast. Been like that for years and needs to change. When you driving down the QE2 doing 115 to 120 and one of them passes you, which is quite often, it’s to fast to be driving something of that size with or without a load on. I owned a 38ft motorhome for years and had a huge amount of respect for the weight I needed to stop and distance I left in front of me for stopping. Doesn’t seem to faze some of these drivers when they are all over your bumper on roads. And the ones that do leave space, there’s always that vehicle that feels, oh look a space for me to jam my car in front of that big semi…..

Air brakes.. each time the brakes are applied the system uses and loses air, until the compressor can build more air pressure, apply the brakes too many times and there is not enough air to apply the brakes, no brakes oh shit. Brakes don't just fail. Vehicles, especially heavy trucks, that aren't properly maintained by the owner/operator can have a variety of component failures, but the most disastrous is brakes that fail due to poor or non-existent maintenance. Owner: Guilty

Driving a 1964 Beetle with a single piston master cylinder. I applied the brakes, a rear wheel cylinder let go so I lost all pressure and the pedal went straight to the floor.
