I've always thought Rocky has the best ending in any movie I've seen. When Paulie lets Adrian into the ring and the fanfare starts, and the two of them just want to be with each other. That's what life's about and what everyone's looking for.

Not to mention Paulie, as a character tends to really get the short end of the stick, people never stop and consider things from the character's point of view. Like they get on him for the big fight with the bat, forgetting that Paulie had come home to his sister and best friend talking shit about him1. As Paulie points out, he set Rocky and Adrian up, he gives Rocky free meat (endangering his job), offered to help with the training and all he had ever asked is for Rocky to put in a good word with Gazo so Paulie could get a better job; and that's just the first one. Paulie isn't a saint but through the series he time and time again goes to bat for his people, at times when even Rocky doesn't.

I don't know, regardless of how messed up shit is you don't take a bat to your friend and sister. No excuse for that sorry. I don't care what his "Viewpoint" was. He attacked rocky against in a later movie as well...Rocky 3 I think. Dude is prone to violence and that doesn't deserve any excuses. Maybe im biased though because I grew up with a brother like that. And Burt Young is the man, obviously im commenting on his character in Rocky. @@Zylthis

rocky is a love story. When Rocky is knocked down in the 14th and Mickey is telling him to stay down, it shows how much Mickey cares for rocky and how much of a beating Rocky had taken. Mickey was basically tossing in the towel. With the music it always makes me tear up. rocky did not knock out Creed because after 1 round of keeping your hands up with gloves is tiring, try 15 with a guy trying to kill you, hard to even keep your hands up at that point.

If no one else has explained it yet. Hugging and holding on to an opponent is a defense technique used by boxers to minimize getting hit. So the fight ended with Apollo realizing he was in danger of falling down and holding Rocky tightly to prevent it. And Rocky instinctively hugged Apollo back to avoid the possibility of a unexpected sucker punch.. Anyway, great reaction and looking forward to seeing you fall in love with these characters and their journey!

Rocky's budget was 1.2 million dollars and shot in 30 days. Still the lowest budget film to win Best Picture. The movie came out in 1976 during the Bicentennial. The movie played off it. Rocky 2 is my favorite for alot of reasons. The referee in the movie was a real fighter in the 40s and 50s. My Dad was also a professional boxer from Mexico and came to the US in the early 50s. Dad fought him twice and won. The boxers name was Lou filipo. We have have my dad's gloves from those fights and Lou signed them. My dad never was champ, but he fought all the ranked contenders of that time. Love watching your reactions!

Burgess Meredith is SO friggin' brilliant as Mick. And every time i watch this i am also blown away by Stallone's INCREDIBLE characterization of a good natured meathead. He's so flippin funny and sweet and nuanced, with rare glimpses of resentment and despondence. Unbelievable oerformances.

The cut man in a boxing match is there to help keep the boxers face and eyes from swelling shut, and to treat cuts in such a way to stop them bleeding. Cutting a boxer to release the pressure is rare, that’s why it squirts. It’s not allowed now, nor are fight’s allowed over 12 rounds. Most fatalities in boxing happen in the last three rounds, that’s why it’s only 12 now.

Love your reaction. Your comments are entertaining and not obtrusive. Very pleasant seeing you genuinely enjoy this iconic movie :) I always note what people say about Rocky & Adriane's first love scene, I liked that you seemed to consider what you thought, it bothers me when some reviewers paint that scene as an assault. A strong guy and a physical guy has to consciously drop gears in close female company. Sometimes it's hard to remember. I was not surprised he was attracted to Adriane, the big boy grows up either a bully or a protector, and Rocky is the protector forced to be a bully. Adriane was the damsel most in distress which brought out his shining knight. The less she talked the more withdrawn she was the more infatuated he got. ❤️❤️

36:40 "it's OK Adrian. He's not going to die." Weeeelllllll... About 500 professional boxers died in the ring or in the hospital after a fight between 1900-1995. Countless amateurs might have died too, though their fights are shorter and less likely to end in a lethal blow. Very few of those dead boxers took this much of a beating. That's why Mickey was telling Rocky to "stay down" so he wouldn't get up and die. It's very possible. Also, that said, during the filming of Rocky 4, Stallone had to be rushed to the emergency room and very nearly died from the punches he received just filming a boxing movie. So the damage boxers can take is real, and it can be fatal. And THIS much damage is insane and almost never happens for real - welcome to the movies. But here she is, in that movie, seeing this damage. She's right to worry.

When Mick comes to Rock trying to help him without looking like he was using him, but because he can see what's going to happen and Rock can only see how Mick treated him and belittled him for as long as he's known him to only have a big enough heart to let it go and he can't have that so he runs after him to apologize and accept his help...it always makes me tear up.

You re the first reactor Ive seen who actually listened to the Ring announcer giving the judges score cards and declaring Creed the winner. So well done. And yes, the bell saved Creed. But Rocky was also pretty punched out so he couldn't get that finishing shot in before the bell sounded. Critics generally agree that Rocky 2 is the better movie of the two. IMO I'd lean 1, but 2 is amazing as well.

The mistake on the poster with his trunks was a real mistake. They couldn't afford to re-do the poster so Stallone wrote the mistake into the movie. Also Mick was telling Rocky to stay down so he wouldn't take anymore punishment.

Burt Young died recently. You had it with Mickey BE. Cool recall. Good health to all!

Great reaction to a true classic!!!! You had some questions: yes, it is my understanding that the dog in the movie was his dog, a "cut" man in boxing is someone who has the knowledge and expertise to treat the cuts that occur during a fight (actual cutting like we saw in the movie is very rare), I don't think Rocky was holding Apollo up, they both were at close quarters to one another trying to knock each other out but neither could get the job done. Best wishes to you for this channel and your other one (I'm subscribed to both). I am really enjoying you watching the great movies from the 50's, 60's and 70's that I've seen and enjoyed all my life.

Even though Rocky barely says anything during the first ten minutes of the film, you already know everything about him based on his actions, facial expressions, and mannerisms. That's great writing by Stallone and directing by the late John Avildsen.

2:40 "Is this some small time underground illegal boxing ring? Or legit?" Small-time: yes. Underground: no. Illegal: no. Legit: yes. This is a gym where boxers train. The ring is so that two of them can get in and practice. Sometimes they arrange a paid event in these gyms. They sell tickets and pay the boxers, pay the ref, and the gym owner gets to keep some too. They might only sell 20 or 30 tickets, or maybe 50, and nobody gets paid very much. But every bit of it is perfectly legal.

8:29 You've got to love the dynamic between Rocky and Adrian. You can tell _Adrian_ likes _Rocky_ because she never _says_ anything when he's around. And you can tell _Rocky_ likes _Adrian_ because he never _stops_ talking when she's around.

37:30 "Is that what the cut man does?" You are right. If a boxer is bleeding too much, the referee will stop the fight. Even if it's just a nose-bleed, the ref can still stop the fight. But sometimes a boxer's face gets cut. The opponent's glove can tear a boxer's face, and some cuts are caused if the fighters bump heads which happens a lot, actually, almost always on accident. If the cut bleeds too much, the ref stops the fight. If a cut is over the boxer's eye, the blood can get into his eye and a ref will ALWAYS stop the fight when that happens because if the man can't see, he'll get killed out there. So the cut man's job is to manage those cuts and stop the bleeding. They have medicines that are excellent at reducing bleeding. This extra thing of cutting open the swelling to let the fluids out so Rocky can see is pretty much a boxing myth. Stallone took this myth and turned it into a big moment in this movie. Real fight doctors will tell you that this is almost certain to lead to an instant stoppage by the ref and wouldn't help Rocky see anything anyway.

"Rocky" is hands down one of THE greatest movies in cinematic history. Fun fact: Butkus the English Mastiff was actually Stallone's dog in real life. And, yes, you're right about a then-broke Stallone having to sell his beloved Butkus for $25. And after Rocky made Stallone famous, he offered guy who bought the dog for $25 a tidy profit of $500. Knowing who Stallone was, the guy refused the offer. Stallone then offered $1000, and the guy still refused. Stallone finally got Butkus back, but not before he had to pay a whopping $15,000! And as Stallone can attest that a "dog is man's best friend" and HOW much he loved that dog, Sly not only paid $15,000 to get it back, but he "only" was paid $35,000 by the Studio for doing the movie, so it showed how far Stallone was willing to go in order to get Butkus back :) P.S. LOLOL@your reaction when Rocky drank the raw eggs
