I went to DC yesterday (the 6th of August 2011) just to practice a bit, and it felt really good.. some days playing just comes super naturally and you don't struggle as much as other days :) So I decided to record a quick little clip of some ideas that I'm working on, mostly so that I don't forget them.. but also so that I can see and hear what they're like when they're recorded.
This is by no means a creative "drum solo", I was just jamming and messing around and having fun. This is not rehearsed, it's just an improvised little snippet from my practice routine.

A true, great drummer will leave the flaws dropping the stick in the video to show that even the best drummers can make mistakes and it's ok.

@volcom80912 not really at the moment, triplets are quite high on the list right now. also really focusing on my left hand, getting the ghost notes more even. I've also been neglecting my single strokes for a LONG time, so I've been trying to get them a bit cleaner and faster. I've dabbled a bit with 7/8 recently, will venture there in the next little video.

@Ileikdrumzz this is a very VERY valid comment.. I've never been too good at strict "solos" because my approach to drumming is very melodic, I see different patterns and phrases in a musical context, not really a solo and stand-alone context. that definitely influences my jam sessions and solos :) I don't think that's a bad thing at all, but I agree.. it's a completely different way of soloing.

  • @BaphometRael

Too badass-even cooler is how you adjust your glasses in-between your playing. I do that all the time, too when I am practicing guitar. Being able to keep on beat and fix ones glasses at the same time demands extreme disciplined talent. We both know! GREAT drumming bro. Want to start a band? I live in New Mexico but have no problem working through computers. Hails from New Mexico.

Cobus is one thing if nothing else, he's having fun. People need to lighten up, the guy has never proclaimed to be a great drummer and seems to be a pretty humble dude. Im a fan so I can lay out the basics for you. His original videos were performed, recorded and edited by him. Bands he has covered have complimented his covers. He has an education ( I believe his math skills help with the drumming :) and most importantly, he's inspirational to would be drummers. Next time guy, do some research.
