Just like I was suspecting, Mike Barnes has been brought in as a technical consultant for the tournament. It only makes sense. Daniel and Johnny only fought in the All-Valley Championships, and it's unknown if Chozen ever fought in a tournament setting, but probably not. Remember Mr. Miyagi telling Daniel in the original Karate Kid: "fight for life, not points." Barnes was a tournament champion many times over and knows how the circuit works inside and out. "Ask the experienced, not the learned." We can speculate that Chozen, as far as rank, is equal to Barnes (10th Dan it appears); however, I do not think Daniel or Johnny can claim anything past 2nd or 3rd Dan; I could be wrong. This whole tournament hinges on Barnes preparing the Miyagi Dos for the mental aspects of the tournament and Chozen making sure they are prepared technique-wise for the dastardly tactics Master Kim's crew will employ.

The funny thing is if Sam went to her dad and said she didnt want Barnes teaching at Miyagi Do, that would be the end of Barnes. Like it or not, daddys little girl holds all the power at Miyagi Do. You want in? Gotta be ok with Sam. If Sam wants you gone, youre gone. Just the fact that in the earliest promo image of season 6 when we saw Tory in Miyagi Do, we all knew something must change between her and Sam. Why do we know this? Because Sam has all the say on whether Tory can join or not. Not that Sam has ever done this, she seems to want everyone in Miyagi Do, but if I were Barnes, I would avoid specifically targeting Sam, lest he end up out on his ass.

Theres a few people I think for sure would not get that line spoken to them. He wouldnt say that to Miguel, because that would indirectly be an insult to Johnny. He wouldnt say that to Samantha because its definitely an insult to Daniel. And Robby probably gets the double dip as hes Johnny's son AND Daniel's student. So that line will probably get wasted on like Mitch or Chris, or even funnier, Bert lol.

I like how the colors of each karate gi worn by the now adult characters are introduced: 1. Daniel - the iconic Miyagi-Do karate gi to honor the lessons Mr. Miyagi taught him 2. Johnny - rejected his old Cobra Kai black gi in favor of his more personal style, Eagle Fang donned in dominantly red with black stripes. 3. Chozen - brown Miyagi-Do karate gi which symbolizes that Miyagi-Do can also be aggressive if the situation calls for it as well as it reflects how Sato represents the other coin of Miyagi-Do teachings. 4. Mike - a dominantly black gi with red stripes, effectively a palette swap of Johnny's Eagle Fang as well as it reflects his status as the national champion

Mike Barnes has experience in a tournament, which neither Johnny nor Daniel have. Barnes need to be super tough for the sake of the students. And I don't think Chozen will have any issues with it either, as he's fought to the death too.

I see that Mike Barnes is wearing 10 red stripes on his blackbelt. I take this to mean that he is a 10th Degree Blackbelt Grandmaster. If true, this would strongly indicate that he continued to be actively involved in martial arts after the events of Karate Kid 3.

I dont think so. Barnes specifically said Daniel came to him, and its understandable why. Daniel and Johnny are local heroes true, but theyve never competed in anything but the All Valley, while Barnes was a champion on the national level. The Sekai Tekai is a world tournament, which is even above Barnes experience level, but way way above Daniel and Johnnys experience. I think Barnes is only going to be hard on these kids because he knows they arent ready, and he wants to make sure they are ready. In a way, I think hes doing this for Daniel. You could tell in season 5 that he still feels bad all these years later for the way he treated Daniel in KK3

He'll apologize and will probably have to do some penance, much like Hawk had to earn forgiveness at the start of S4. Actually, between S3 and S4, there was a theory going around that Hawk would turn out to be a spy for Cobra Kai. I felt that would have undone his whole S3 arc, and a more likely spy would be Bert or Mitch.

I don't think they'll kick anyone out of the dojo like Kreese would, but they're NOT going to bring everyone to the Sekai Taikai. I said after S5 dropped that the ones who will go to the Sekai Taikai will be Miguel, Sam, Robby, Tory, Hawk and MAYBE Demitri. I know they showed a video from the tournament and there's no sign of Tory or Hawk, but we'll see.
