Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to install the diy Raspberry Pi Pico 40 channel VFO from my previous videos in old 23 channel Cobra C.B. Radios. The radios this should work for include the Cobra 19, Cobra 21, Cobra 29 and Cobra Cam 88. cb radio mods extra channels

Interesting series, have you tried transmitting? I was surprised it was such a simple drop in without matching levels? Or getting more spurs ?

Thank you. Yes it transmits and receives. The si5351 was designed to be a direct replacement for crystal oscillators. Unfortunately I don't have a scope or analyzer to check for any anomalies. One of the local ham guys I an pretty good friends with monitors the bands and lets people know if they are bleeding or causing a disturbance anywhere, and he has not said anything. Its not as accurate as a network analyzer, but it is the best I can do right now. I have talked on the radio with the mod for about a week and everything seems to check out. My frequency counter says its on frequency. It does take a while for the three crystals and vfo in use in the radio to warm up, so the counter reads off by a digit for around 10 minutes after I power the radio on. Thats kind of expected with 3 crystals plus the VFO. I don't use any extra power so if it is throwing a few spurs they wont be too problematic.

@@CircuitSecrets I'm going to give the si5351 a try based on your inspiration with some RC radio designs I've been playing with, I see that circuitpython has a si5351 library so that may streamline things. Thx again.

@@khimbittle7705 Yeah absolutely, I have a background in C and actionscript AS2 specifically thats the only reason I use arduino for most things, I always intend to try out some python but always get tied up with projects and its easiest to just use what is familiar. Let me know how the project goes and some details, it might inspire me! Thank you!

How can a simpleton like me install this in an old tube regency imperial. I’m retired with a very limited budget. I don’t know anything about programming

Yeah, the main connection would be to the 37.600 crystal position. The offset would be set to 10.635. Operation would be on channel 1. Double check all that with a dummy load, and frequency counter.

I still have to do a revision for ssb, these are designed for AM, CW, FM only. I hope to get one done for that this fall or winter after I get a side band radio to use for a test bed.

Why bother? Those are junk radios, only 8 to 10 on ssb. Don't polish a turd

The older radios with simple crystal mixing are all easy. A schematic and tech notes is all it takes to figure out, then swap a vfo with the proper offset for a crystal. Even more modern radios use mixing and you just bypass the vco and inject vfo in its place.

Why? It's an am only 23 ch, low power out. Waste of time.

It is the simplicity of the circuit. It makes for a good primer on how to modify the mixing circuits of radios. A simple cheap DIY approach that is meant to lower the entry point to learning and modifying radios. Anyone will feel comfortable experimenting with these methods on such a cheap radio, and if their experiment fails the education cost is still low.

I bet you think the audio off of channel 6 is impressive.
