Coaxsher Vs. Abbree Radio Harness - Name Brand or AliExpress?
Ғылым және технология
Straight Whacker or useful in specific situations? The Coaxsher obviously has a history of use with search and rescue, but should you use one? How would you kit it out? What radio would you put in it?

I am a Wildland firefighter and I invested in the abree harness due to price and so far after 2 seasons still holding up perfect for when you need your hands free
I'm going to stick with my child size HELLO KITTY backpack, with extended straps worn in the front... Because if your going to look like a dweeb, go for it, give it 100%.

Like “Hello Unicorn” in Altered Carbon.
A lot of younger hams (20+) at our club have these. I got one. All of ours are Abbrees but have Yellow reflective bands on them so stand out and reflect light. So yes, I use them.
I’m buying stock in both and advertising on parler. Factories couldn’t keep up 😂😂😂
I gotta admit I love your intro music, it's just enough to pump me back up after my brain starts leaking out of my head from information overload lol
I have one of these I used to use it in conjunction with a camelbak for hasty searches when I knew we were going to be staying relatively close to base. I have since swapped out to a Hill People Gear Sar Kit bag chest pouch it has a bit more storage which I appreciate.
I have both Coaxsher radio harness and a Hill People Gear chest pack. Coaxsher and similar packs like Conterra and True North are really specific to wildland fire/SAR work, and they are amazing for that. My Coaxsher has been on a lot of wilderness searches and is still in great shape. But the elastic radio sleeve is difficult to use with big 800mhz radios. If you aren't carrying radios in the wilderness for your job, then it is a little whacker (but not "tacticool"). But if you are hiking and you want your radio, gps, compass, maps, snacks, and a small pistol right where can get them without taking off your backpack, and don't mind looking goofy, they work.
I could see myself wanting that on a hike or something. Very nice.
I used one of these on a wildfire a few months ago and absolutely fell in love with it

It fits well for our radios?
I don't have this style but one of the smaller reflective ones that holds all my stuff when I'm out in the backwoods where I live working satellites. Easy to just grab and go out of the truck and it's got my old yaesu ft60 and a uv5r living in it full time for just satellites. It's super convenient for that. Haven't used it for anything else.
I run the Team Wendy Radio RIg, have for over a year and ARES events it is very handy, tacticool for sure.
"going full LARP with this" -- dude, you made me spray my beer.
I can see it being useful for any sort of event where you need to keep your hands free. Kind of like the fold down desk thing.
I use a 511 utility vest in Digi camo desert. Most all of the pockets are covered so I don't draw much attention. Living in SV9 land now for 14 years, most people here think one is nuts to wear radios on ones chest. The 511 vest only works in early spring and late fall since the summer months are real hot and humid. I use a fanny pack designed for a large pistol to keep me radio in. As for the antenna I have rigged an "extention" cable from coax and remote mounted the antenna as discretely as possible.
Have you looked at one by Qcore Performance? It’s an actual plate carrier, the same kind that holds armor plates, but it’s available in a reflective exterior as well as the usual tactical colors, but more importantly you can swap out the armor plates for water filled plates that can be put in the freezer the night before an event and when it melts you can drink the water through a straw like a camelback. It’s a neat design.
These are marketed for wildland firefighters. You see lots of guys use them and they are super nice for that. Only drawback is in warm weather it makes your chest feel like Florida which is bad.
I would get one if it came in Gray or another non-tacticool color. Black and FDE are sooooooooo 2012. This would be great for SAR
We use these for ski patrol for those who don't use a vest with radio harness built in.
I use a chest rig for my HTs. Every day? No, but I do keep it loaded for a grab and go situation, and use it for working events
I use the Coaxsher RCP1 pro for sawyer work. Would recommend it for the price.
I just got the Abbree version (mainly because the Coaxsher one seems absent here in the UK), and don't really like it at all. I can get it on when I'm wearing a t-shirt but anything thicker and it's not going to fit me. I'm in a local mountain rescue team, and my backpack weighs a ton, so wanted to switch to my lighter climbing backpack and use the chest rig to supplement it. It would also mean I could keep my radio(s) and some kit with me after I've dropped my pack at the kit dump when at a casualty site. Problem is my climbing pack doesn't have any side pouches and the chest rig feels odd with the pouch contents in. Plus it could do with a pouch suitable for a torch. Like you say they just drop out with the current pouch. Guess I'll keep looking
If only the Abbree one had a mount on the back for a 43" Abbree antenna. THAT would be Tacticool. ;)
For as few times as I would use it. I will get the Abbree. If I use it three times a year. I think the Abbree will work.
There are plenty of open-top radio cases that will fit on a duty belt. Not as easy for a remote antenna or shoulder mic, but they can be used and you don't need all that clutter. Better flexibility.
Is their a radio harness you would recommend for a mountain emt?
It's kinda cool.. I don't know if I could pull off the look though xP
Are you serious with this? Does this come with an "Emergency Communications" polo shirt and a yellow flashing light for your car?

Lol, and a mobile whip that hooks to your hat or helmet 😂😂
Lol, I think people buy them and just wear them around the house. These chest harnesses seem to sell well enough but I can't say I remember seeing one in use in my travels. (other than actual public safety folks)
Complete whacker. If I were to carry a radio, it's clipping to my belt or the inside of a cargo pocket. If I want the antenna higher up, I'll clip it to a backpack. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that thing.

Buy a surplus molle backpack. On hikes I will bring the Baofeng or one of my Yaesus and put it on a radio pouch and I have external mics for both. Where I go if I need it theres only two frequencies I'll be on anyways

Definitely, something that Bill Lumbergh would wear! - Yeaahhh - Oh, oh, and I almost forgot. I do enjoy your vids though dude! Good TPS report. 🤣
Congratulations on winning the Bill Leonard award.

Thank you!
Awesomeness! Fanny packs for your chest. Nothing says bad-ass like a fanny pack on your chest. Except the dual action beer can helmet. Oh yeah... :)
Military uses web gear and plate holders. I’m not sure I like either bag, but I haven’t used them. I never cared for stuff in front of me when being tactical. Working on aircraft it would be in the way for my use. I think tool pouches for carpenters are a much handier idea. IMHO A vest may be more my style.
I start a production assistant job on Monday I want this because I don’t want my walkie talkie on my hip.
Probably too much to expect double stitching... just hope the stitching doesn’t give out and pull apart at seams with use.
Need the beginners ham radio playlist

It’s the top playlist on my channel. “Are you new to ham radio”
Can it fit a sapi plate?
I would POSSIBLY consider using the harness in conjunction with a backpack that has a hip belt. Or, possibly for CERT, loaded out with a med kit. Otherwise, no, just no.

That's what I do, the Conterra Adjustapro works great with a backpack. Will be using with a 5.11 Rush24. I like having my radio on me and being able to remove my backpack with the radio still accessible.
I don't need one in an urban environment as most of my walks or hikes are in the forest. I do wear one when hiking or trail running to carry my HT and a first aid kit, phone, water etc. Much easier to access radio when it is on my chest.

I have a one day pack with molle webbing. I put a radio pouch outside of it. I can't stand chest harnesses, but I do have the speaker mic.
Blackhawk had one they sold a long time ago.
Check out hill people kit bags.

G19 or similar fits nicely in the chest pack
You get what you pay for in build quality. I use my chest harness while working parades.
😂😂😂 isn’t tatikool in the definition of whacker?
It's a baby carrier for radios! We Sar guys love these carriers to death! Prevents us from digging in to our packs.
Guess my opinion. I have a SCOTTEVEST! jacket that has never been used. Don't know what that is? Lucky you.
Need an option with a holster.
Thanks for the video! Made it a definite no to purchase!
Tactakilt? Yes.
Ill stay with the chinese/russian mag chest rigs. Theyre $20 and have way more functionality. Imo
Why not just deck out a plate carrier? it would be less cringe.
@HamRadioCrashCourse

Mentioned in the beginning. The SAR people that use these don’t need any more weight of a plate carrier.
reminds me of team wendy radio rigs
What?? No Molle?
Good review. I personally don't care for chest packs. Had one, tried it on an ARES public service event, and it's now just a gear storage bag. I've found I prefer to have my radio in the chest pocket of my ARES High-vis vest, or the companion CERT vest (after market purchase, no the flag football vest that comes with the standard CERT kit) and pens, notepads, maps etc. and their weight distributed around the various pockets of the vest. That or just carry it on my belt (I almost always have a speaker mic attached no matter how I carry the body of the radio). When working at the EMA we carried our public safety (Motorola) radios on our belts or stuck it in the radio pocket of our 3 season parkas, much as the fire folks we worked with. Our local Urban SAR and Water Rescue teams use similar chest packs for their ops, so I guess it depends on the mission.
Better off with a small modular chest rig.
🎉
For the algorithm
$74?? Oh hell no.

Total whacker is that. Why buy these things when you are trying to look paramilitary but look like you spend your day working through the local Wendys menu. If you can't fit it into a backpack then get one that is more suited to your needs.
Imagine using it to hold radios and all the stuff you usually put in your pockets while riding a motorcycle. The pouch would be for a pistol, since those will become necessary soon, since society has broken down into chaos. It's worth about $12-15 max, so they won't sell at that price!
my coaxsher trash bag fell apart on its 1st wear, its garbage
The rest of society thinks all hams are crazy if they think of them at all. Kinda depressing to see one segment of hams glorifying in trashing another segment. We had better hang together or most assuredly we will hang separately.
