Thank you that’s lovely of you to say 😁 I think it’s from years of working in the hospitality industry (albeit not in accommodations but rather pubs & bars) I can see how small acts of helpfulness can make a massive difference to someone’s day, especially if they have several rooms to sort out on a time limit

Beautiful video. The last time I walked the Coast to Coast path, I stayed at both Ennerdale YHA and Black Sail Hostel. Black Sail was a bit of a must. Between the two (which is just 4 miles) I took a detour up to the ridge, which takes in Starling Dodd, Red Pike, High Stile and High Crag. The walk finishes with a long descent down Scath Gap, where you can see the Black Sail Hostel in the distance. I would recommend this walk on a clear day to just about any one.

It was back in 2016. I'd stayed at Black Sail a number of times before then. There was a real family atmosphere there. Usually in hostels I keep to myself. But at Black Sail people would all stay for the evening meal, and start chatting over a bottle of wine. Sad to hear that it is so expensive now. It used to be the same cost as staying at Ennerdale. I don't live in the UK any more, so it is a long time since I have been to the Lakes.

Yes its a long way up Loft Beck... but the views along the way and from the Top are well worth it. You are right all we hikers want after a day in the Mountains is a Pint (or two) each day. Just remember to put the tent up FIRST. Tony in Essex.

@@Orenjen 2017. March. Every morning was a frozen tent. It was great. Wouldn’t change a thing. But it would have been nice to get those views. I’ll just have to do it again.

Well done for completing the coast to coast - I hope that you continue as there are so many wonderful trails to do in the uk. Never done them myself and only discovered fell walking in my late 40s and now you cannot keep me away from the lakes. Halfway through the wainwrights. Remember being homesick the first time when I was 16 and joined the Royal navy in 1980 - it’s fine to miss home. If I am working away and staying in a hotel I still miss home - the Mrs and the cats and dogs and I’m 59 now!! Hope to see more. Recently been viewing the Knoydart area of Scotland and it’s amazing. All the best.

Oh I don’t plan on stopping any time soon, there are too many to count that I want to do 😁 and I totally get that, once you get hiking fever it stays with you! It’s absolutely incredible, and the Lakes is the best place for it. And thank you for that, that’s helped me feel better as I sometimes feel so annoyed at myself for getting so homesick when I’m in such a wonderful area like this. I can tell you now, the homesickness doesn’t get much better on this journey and once I reached Richmond I actually considered just going home, I was so upset & worn out (spoiler: I didn’t! I carried on, thank god 😁)

I thoroughly enjoyed part 3 thank you. Your attention to detail and the time you have taken to film this is appreciated.

Looks this is the low route - did it 15 yrs ago in May with glorious weather but did the peaks( high) route. Great vid and looking forward to the coming days video. Some great poignant memories for me as we raised £13k (my friends and me -3 of us) for promise dreams which gives terminally I’ll children their last wish - I still have the details of the children we helped achieve their wish. So glad we did it. One of my proudest achievements. Cycling lands end to John o groats in 2024 for McMillan nurses to complete the set.👍😀

Yes I opted for the low route in most cases, but make the high route into Grasmere in the next video as I do the 3 Wainwrights before descending into the village. And wow, well done! That’s absolutely amazing. And best of luck for Lands End to John O Groats! That’s on my list too, but way in the future for me 😁

I’ve been thinking about getting a dog for some time now, I likely will in the future. And yes my main fear about being a solo female hiker is other people, I’ve been lucky to encounter only friendly people so far, but I do have my wits about me & carry protection as well as a GPS tracker

Beautiful landscape & cinematography, Jen Good on yer for supporting the YHA. Sad but understandable to hear that they almost went out of business during the pandemic, so that explains the pricing.

I know they have gone a bit extortionate nowadays, though hopefully that should come down in the next couple of years. I love the YHA, I’ve loved them since I was a kid and went on so many adventures such as caving, kayaking, a sailing and hiking when I stayed at Edale YHA as a summer camp (I think I was around 12 at the time?)

Did I hear you correctly £100 per night at Black Sail YHA !! I paid £4 way back in 1979 and the same in 1980 for my East to West C2C. Tony in Essex

I know it’s insane! I think it being the most sought after YHA due to its location & history has something to do with it, as well as the impact from Covid. I spoke to a worker there and he reckoned the prices would drop in the coming years, though I can guarantee it won’t be £4! Probably still pricey like £60 or so

Hi, no worries, and I’d 100% suggest booking as sometimes the YHA is fully booked. I’m not exactly sure on their policies on walk ins but I’m sure if they have room it won’t be a problem, but always book beforehand anyway. Oh, and it’s important to remember to ALWAYS bring your ID when staying at a YHA, they can turn you away if you don’t have it, I’ve seen it happen before. It’s for safeguarding or something

I think I remember you saying you did this in 14 days? I'm really interested to see where you end up catching up, I did it in 12 but had made it to Grasmere by day 2! The Ennerdale hostel you stayed at on night 2 was an absolute life saver for me as I was supposed to wild camp but wasn't able to and had to walk on further than expected!

Wow 12 is good going! You’ll see around the Shap mark I actually have to cut out a section to Kirkby Stephen as my mum met up with me due to me struggling emotionally, and given time restrictions I had to just skip that section. I think that’s what kept me on track, and one day I’ll return to complete that section 😁

@Orenjen I went through a couple of sections quicker than expected. Honestly I was so lucky my girlfriend joined me from Kirkby Stephen to Richmond and then on a couple of days she was just on the phone to me for hours as some of it was really hard. It's not an easy journey and you're smashing it! I tried to record mine but the rain I had was insane on quite a few of the days.

@@tomparsons3710 yeah it’s tough walking that far by yourself, I was on the phone to Cameron (my boyfriend) constantly 😂 looking back, the only thing I would’ve changed was to stop beating myself up about being homesick, there was a strange part of me that felt stupid for feeling that way and it’s just normal. That’s why I’m so open about it in my videos, even though it might make me seem weak, there are a few times in the coming days , especially around Richmond, where I just break down. I’m glad I continued though, because I almost just called it quits at Richmond

@Orenjen thought I'd replied! But yeah Richmond to Ingleby Cross was tough (so boring) and then the North York Moors were long to the White Lion and it hailed in July when I was up there. I went with a summer hike in mind and it was mostly rain 😂. So glad you made it! Love watching your films
