Agree. I hope the submarine occupants are found safely. However, this is a good example as to why the titanic should be treated as a memorial to the lives lost. Not a tourist attraction.

As a former US Navy submariner, I have to say that if they are not found on the surface somewhere (and they would have been by now), then they are all dead. This submarine has no oxygen generation equipment, so even if it is intact, they will likely run out of air before a recovery can be possible. If it was some kind of mechanical failure that caused a loss of hull integrity, then at least they went quickly as they would have been crushed instantly.

I'm not sure why so many people are ignorant enough to be optimistic about this, especially the people that claim to be former submariners or sailors. 1. If the power fails and they sink, it's over. And sadly it'll be over in less than 96 hours because these people are definitely losing their shit and breathing up that air faster than intended. Potentially even faster still if all that extra breathing saturates the CO2 scrubbers and stops them from working effectively. 2. Hull breach, game over. 3. I can't think of any other critical failure that would break radio coms, AND prevent them from surfacing. Aside from power or structural failure. 4. Non-critical failure, they drop some ballast rise up to the surface and wait. Everybody goes home. Easy day. This is a very unfortunate thing for all involved.

I heard an interview from a reporter who had gone on this trip. His sub started having mechanical difficulties early so they were not able to get down to the titanic at all. He said that all these subs were fraught with problems. He also stated that it is a 5 day trip and if they don't find the titanic day 1 they go day 2 up to 5 days. He also said they have air for 3 days so at least time isn't crucial yet. 13,000 feet deep is REALLY deep for rescue operations. I don't know why they haven't put cameras down there to see if they can see any trouble.

I read an interview with Oceangate's CEO (who is one of the five onboard the missing sub) and his words gave the impression of a somewhat cavalier attitude to the risks involved in this dive. He pretty much declared it safe (based on the previous successful dives they had run) and said he was more worried about the possibility of something going wrong on the mothership than during this dive. I seem to recall those in charge of another certain vessel had a similarly cavalier attitude towards the capabilities of their own ship, and that didn't end up going so well.

Pisces III's sank to the bottom with nominally 72 hours of life support. The crew was rescued after 76 hours underwater. Unless there's a clear sign of catastrophic failure of the submarine, expect the rescue efforts to continue to and even past 96 hour mark. That's not to say I'm optimistic, or that I think the search and rescue team is optimistic. If the sub's on the bottom, it would be the deepest rescue attempt in history, by an enormous margin. But even if the sub is sitting on the bottom at 12,500ft, like the Titanic, it's rated for those depths, and so are some other subs and ROVs. In theory, the sub and the people on board might not be beyond rescue. And even a slim chance is usually enough for search and rescue personnel to go out and try.

  • @FrisbeeGirl

@@SnakebitSTI By all means, attempt a rescue, but do be honest, open, and realistic about the risks and potential outcomes: with a number of reports are saying that the vessel wasn't properly assessed and prepared and you could be dealing with a crew of casual and new to the sea shipfolk. The reduces the air life support timeline monumentally.

I can agree with you mate I've been researching the Titanic ever since Elementary. This was a great disrespect to do in this today's poor folks. Just their rest in peace down there by the ship. But no, these folks had to create a submarine to go down there and just see the ship The ship should be rested and should have its time to rest in peace, including those poor souls who lost their lives. I'm a paranormal researcher so I can respect what you're saying, mate. Believe or not, I even dreamt about being a little girl dying on the ship. So it's not a good thing for these folks to be there. The titanic itself had powerful billionaires on board which after their death’s allowed the formation of the federal reserve a year later. Tate himself said last week a lot of billionaires die in ‘mysterious’ plane crashes etc, I don’t know why in 2023 people are still listening to the media.

that's the reason regulations exist Rush ignored the regulations In a 2022 interview, Rush told CBS News, "At some point, safety just is pure waste. I mean, if you just want to be safe, don't get out of bed. Don't get in your car. Don't do anything."[32] Technology writer and reporter David Pogue, who completed the expedition in 2022 as part of a CBS News Sunday Morning feature,[27] stated that all passengers who enter the Titan sign a waiver confirming their knowledge that it is an "experimental" vessel "that has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body, and could result in physical injury, disability, emotional trauma or death."[28] Television producer Mike Reiss, who has also completed the expedition, noted that the waiver "mention[s] death three times on page one."[29] On this expedition, the communication system also failed on one of the dives, preventing the crew from finding the wreckage.[27] Rush was asking for this to happen. almost EVERY SINGLE tragedy like this especially in building failures (including vehicles) comes from the owners of said buildings / vehicles willfully cheaping out on the maintenance and ignoring regulations when designing them and almost all of them could have been prevented. time and time again when you look into these things you find this exact theme of people ignoring safety for their own cash benefit until something horrible happens, it's absolutely depressing. Rush was told SO MANY TIMES and very likely KNEW that the vessel was unsafe and refused to listen as Rush has openly said he was doing this for the money and publicity humans learn from past mistakes but these money hungry monsters don't

Everyone on board that submersible knew the extreme danger of visiting the sunken Titanic at a depth of 12,500 feet (3,787.88 meters) below sea level. Either you die an instantaneous death due to a hull breach or a slow death from carbon dioxide poisoning as the batteries slowly fail. I equate this kind of voyeuristic behavior on a par with unskilled people attempting to climb Mt. Everest. In both instances, both environments are extraordinarily hostile to human life, and the simplest mistakes are often fatal.

Perhaps this illustrates that there are places on this plaent that we just should not go and if we do chose to then we are taking 100% of the risk on our own. I find it utterly unacceptable that anyone should be expected to put their own lives at risk because a few pleasure seekers felt the need to go and gawk at the wreckage. Let's be clear here, the wreckage is the gravesite of almost 1000 people and it is NOT a tourist attraction. Perhaps this is karma's way of treaching people to show some respect.

It’s story resonates with many, it’s a formative tale about the American “dream”, the wests gilded age, and the Industrial Revolution. It has captivated children and adults around the world. Not really, the sub was diving on a charted location, not sashaying willy nilly about the ocean. And if the hull failed, adding the weight of all the water to a vessel already weighing 23,000 pounds means it went more or less straight to the bottom. Also, the area around the wreck is completely familiar territory, any disturbance- a sinking submersible, for instance- will leave an obvious trace.

From my understanding, one of the five members is a billionaire. This is a very tough and difficult situation for both crew members and rescuers. Even with 96 hours of emergency support, that is still nothing once panic set in which I am sure it already has at this point. A sudden break in communications with a submarine = imploded. Those people are dead... either they're sitting on the bottom of the atlantic, running out of air, or their submarine is a mangled mess right next to titanic.
