The military is not a normal job. It's a 24/7/365 career. Just follow instructions with a good attitude. Be physically and mentally fit. You will be taught what is needed. Everything done is with a purpose. Nothing is personal.

Toward the end of boot camp we were paid cash. You had to remain quiet in the pay line. When your turn came you signed your first two initials and your last name. When I got to the back of the line after getting paid. I told one of the other guys excitedly “And we get paid for this, too!” It was actually getting fun. I never regretted joining Victor-107, July 1980

Just graduated coast guard boot camp.. the hardest day of that first week for me was that long day in medical. They had us in our PT gear in the dental waiting room, and they had the AC turned to like 55 degrees at most. We were there for 4 hours shivering.. it was absolute hell. Not being able to move while shivering for hours on end. That was actually one of the worst days I experienced in boot camp, which is crazy to say because we weren’t smoked at all.

this was not what my first week in forming company was like. i went through Cape May in September 1963 and boot camp was eight weeks longer than it is now. it was a much diffrent time and the Coast Guard was a much diffrent service than it is today. we had some guys who went through boot camp and had volunteered for charlie foxtrot which sent them on to Paris Island to train with the U S Marines for another eight weeks. i think Charlie Foxtrot stood for coastal forces. we still had Cuba on our minds in 1963. the thing is these guys were some of us who went to Vietnam in 1965 for operation market time patrol.

Restrooms do not exist. Places of toiletries/showers are referred to as a "head" and are just an extension of the squad bay - I remember a number of lucky souls being asked politely to climb fully clothed into a toilet bowl and shout "I am a worthless turd and need to be flushed" and then commanded to "flush themselves" by eager CCs as we all gathered round to watch. Additionally, Mr. CC will loudly announce the first day - I can shit, shower, shave, and grab a piece of a## in 20 minutes! Does that give you an idea what you are dealing with?

@CGCareerCentral Just saw on another video they do still have it but they changed the name of it. I got put into PEP and ended up staying an extra week because i had pictures of my family in my classroom folder and they found them. I remember the night we got there or maybe the second night they marched the PEP guys into our barracks and proceeded to PT them in front of us until they almost died. They told us all about PEP and how we didn't want to end up there but that inevitably some of us would. I did lol but i made it.
