Coach Ken Carter didn't care about being liked. He was there to make his players into young men entering the hard world first, and basketball players second. The way they hate him in the beginning just further shows how effective he was as both a coach and mentor. It was heartbreaking when he learned the teaching staff were floating them passing grades, but he makes the selfless decision once again, and does what is best for his players. A real hero is someone like Ken Carter.

Great movie in many respects and applicable to many groups, especially student-athletes. The camera work from 0:59-1:04 is excellent. When the audience sees the other athletes laughing, we realize Timo is a toxic influence and has to go. Which is exactly what happens at 1:05.

"This ain't over!" is a great line! It makes you want ot keep watching. What is he going to do to get revenge on the coach for defeating him in a brawl? His pride has been ruffled, and he is NOT going to let this humiliation go unanswered. But, the new coach will be ready. It is going to be a war!

I actually met the actor who played Timo at Venice Beach. My homie balled with him while I (not into sports) was sitting on the bleachers drawing in my sketch pad. He ran up and said "that's a sick drawing" and I smiled.
