being an air defense veteran you will know that HIMARS wont be able to match artillery for accuracy and rate of fire. the reason Russia is using tonnes of artillery and barely used any missile systems yet is because its effective and they have lots of them.

Artillery from the United States and the European Union started working heavily in residential areas of Donbass, every day killing civilians and children. And there are no soldiers nearby. Considering the US has manufactured over 500 of them, it seems reasonable to send the Ukrainians about 20% of them, rather than 2%.

The only deterrence against Russians is full commitment to support Ukraine. Believe it or not, it will be the least costly way to deal with Putin and his barbaric people. Seeing what Russians are doing to civilians and not feeling any remorse makes me wonder if they are the same kind of humans as us.

Well, if you are American be sure Russians are nothing like the same kind of humans as us. Since WW2 the US has bombed 32 countries, fought in 5 major wars, all but Korea based on lies, and killed over 10 million people. During the Vietnam War the US used aircraft to spray poison (Agent Orange) on the country to cause deforestation and rice crop failures which lead to the starvation of peasants and dropped fire on women and children and counted them as enemy dead. In the last 20 years the US has attacked and destroyed all these countries to steal their oil: Iraq, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan.

@CowPie Russia had few advanced weapons to begin with. Far more hype then real. Seriously under performed and now in short supply. Like, the T-14 Armata. Where is it. They have about 2 dozen prototypes and has many design issues including the Jack-In-The-Box syndrome. They also are running low on MLRS rockets, artillery rounds (both of which they are asking Belarus for) and China.

It seems to me that they are trying to "boil the Russian frog" slowly. Rapid escalation might trigger a nuclear response. They will withdraw from Ukraine eventually, like Soviets did from Afghanistan. We need to bleed them. Also this withdrawal must result in crisis in Russia itself. Its not possible and it wouldn't help them, if it were. They likely have already gotten two of them destroyed and watching the propaganda videos of them driving aroun bumper to bumper with all of them together in the same place, its a wonder they haven't all been destroyed. There's no reason whatsoever for those launchers to be within 10km of each other. A single cruise missile or artillery round, would take out all of them. They don't know how to use what they have, which is why their whole military was destroyed and now they need everyone else's.

@Spring Bloom The HIMARS are not all together. The additional truck carries rocket reload packs. Takes less then 5 minutes to reload. When that truck is empty, it hightails it back for more. The HIMARS are always on the move. Never in any area more then 24 hours at most and never together. Although if necessary, they could be in the same region. Never together.

What makes you think "we" are telling "them" everything we're sending over? And even so, those exploding Russian ammo dumps indicate that Russia didn't bother to prepare even when we told them the HIMARS were coming. Russian forces should have immediately dispersed and concealed the dumps as soon as they knew they were going to be targeted in a few days or weeks. Evidently Russia's overstretched logistical troops lack the resources to do that. It's not easy to unload an ammo dump containing hundreds of crates and spread it all over the countryside under camouflage nets. So they just left their ammo in a big pile, easy for an M31 guided missile to hit. I guess nobody over on the Russian side thought it was his problem to solve. Their orders were to dump the ammo here, so they did and left it for Ukraine to detonate.

I think it has something to do with the fact that transporting that kind of weaponry is gonna be leaked no matter what, hence they announce it before it arrived to avoid any diplomatic problems. As long the exact locations and statutes of such weapons are not known, i am not sure why this is that bad.

I am Canadian, I also have family in Ukraine. My mom moved here 2 months ago after escaping Mariupol. If it wasn't for the US supporting Ukraine it would have easily become a country in Russian Empire like Putin desires it to become. We're all going through inflation on both sides of the border and around the world and in less developed countries starvation. Thank-you to all the Americans that support Ukraine's independence.

Longer-range missiles would allow Ukrainian forces to strike the same targets from positions deeper in Ukraine, making it harder for Russian forces to locate and destroy the launchers. A missile with twice the range could have come from a launch site within roughly four times the land area for the Russians to search. And the farther that Russian aircraft have to fly into Ukraine hunting for the launchers, the more they are exposed to Ukrainian air defense systems. Obviously the effectiveness of HIMARS makes the system the number one target for Russia now. When you see one of those big Russian ammunition dumps exploding, that represents a loss of many truckloads from the already-strained Russian logistics, and that many fewer bullets, shells, bombs, and rockets for the Russians to fire, drop, or launch at Ukrainian forces. There's no military need for Ukraine to launch missiles into Russia proper, although the desire for revenge is understandable. The newfound Ukrainian ability to systematically destroy all the Russian ammo dumps, command posts, vehicle parks, etc. within Ukrainian territory should make the war very hard for Russia to continue. When Russia moves all that gear into Ukraine they have to store it somewhere before they use it, and US and NATO satellites can see and pinpoint the bulk of it. Ukraine clearly needs more HIMARS and MLRS launchers and reloads but it takes time to rotate personnel out of country for training. And then there is considerable cost to protect the systems when in Ukraine, so air defense and other systems have to be sent in too, along with training for their Ukrainian operators. It's hard to bring a country's armed forces up to NATO combined-arms standards while they're fighting a war for their survival. It's impressive to see Ukraine and its international partners juggling all this.

They claimed they needed thousands of these to even stand a chance. They did not even get hundreds. They got tens. It's a PR stunt and it's hilarious to see them spin it as anything otherwise.

This is a powerful and most important precision weapon.

We need to stop playing around and being afraid of Russia reaction. Give Ukraine everything they need and don't tie their hands. U.S needs to provide precision weapons and intel to utilize those weapons. We have the greatest army in history - let's show it.

Great to see this content and confirmation, but I hope its not at the expense of the systems location. I know precautions are taken, but there are so many Russian spotters and traitors in Ukraine feeding information in targets etc to Russia every day. Sometimes best left alone for a while and let the systems do what they need to do. These are too precious to lose.

God bless you brave Ukrainian soldiers, and keep up your wonderful sense of humor in these hard times. My hate for Putin and Russia has reached a point where I hope they make the misstake to invade a NATO country. I would love to see the 32 NATO countries wipe out Russia, just like the allies wiped out Nazi-Germany. Together with the MLRS the HIMARS should be able to make it very hard for Russia to concentrate forces before an attack. If complimented with heavy long-range artillery it should be able to stopp Russian advance in the Donbas area. If Ukrane is given 50 HIMARS and 50 MLRS Ukrane would be in the position to cover their entire front. In that situation they will also be able to start taking back limited areas in the northern or southern part of the NATION. I would think that taking back Kherson ought to be possible by simply isolating the city for a longer time while carefully preasuring the Citty from all sides. In this situation Russian troops will have to try to break out. If used in the northern front they could be used to push out the Russians. Not giving the Ukrainkans the systems is from my perspective the same as bleeding them out.

you must stop sending any weapons. deliveries to Ukraine only prolong the conflict. more people are dying, and the Ukrainian army is also hitting civilian targets, including from these weapons. you are insane if you want war with Russia. you are insane. you know nothing about the real causes of the war. you don't know about how the Nazis burned people alive in Odessa in 2014, more than 50 people died on May 2, 2014. you do not know that in Mariupol the Nazis shot down an entire police station in 2014 on May 9th. you do not know about air raids on civilian targets by Ukrainian aviation. you are blinded by propaganda. Russians are the same people as you, they want the same peace. but they will not allow their citizens to be killed, just like the USA does.

Yes it will definitely change the course of the war as long as they provide and supply more of those systems to Ukraine. European countries should do more and send more weapons to Ukraine to let it defend itself from the invading forces.

European governments have given MORE than the USA and we got the equipment there 2 months ago ! They already have 6 MLRS from the UK. Sorry but your news is extremely biased. Also the USA lend lease costs the Ukraine and all European countries gave the Ukraine weapons for free. So check facts before posting stuff

You have to balance that against the need, in a democracy, for citizens to support what their country is doing. I'd rather live in the USA where the government might say a little too much, than in Russia or North Korea where the government constantly lies and hides its crimes behind secrecy.
