How To Make Bowls in VCarve Pro. Recently one of the members of my Facebook group asked how to make bowls in VCarve Pro. While this may seem like a simple process for long time users, a new person may find it hard so I thought I would show you how it is done.
In this video we used a Magnate Bowl carving bit. You can get one on Amazon for around $28. amzn.to/2zOPhSC. Please note this is an Amazon affiliate link and that if you order one I could receive a small commission at no cost to you.
We used a board that was 12"x12"x2" to make this 11" bowl. You can use these techniques to make any shaped bowl you choose. I made the pocket tool paths 1" deep but you can set them as deep as you want as long as it doesn't cut through the bottom of the board.

This was helpful in a different way than I was expecting. I'm trying to learn how to add a bowl bit to my tool database. But there were other things that I learned in this video. I look forward to checking out some of your other videos.

Bill, nice video. It is refreshing to hear you speak in a voice that is easy to understand and does not rush our ears along to follow. I enjoyed the video because it is concise and shows up the tools needed to make these pocket type cuts. Well lit and good audio. No silent type of video where we would only see cursors bouncing around.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with this awesome video. I used the concept to create a serving tray and used the pockets for small snacks, it came out great.

Thank you. Your carving time for the pockets with 45 minutes ist quite long. If you use an end mill first and the ballnose bit last you will gain a lot of speed. But of course you then have to draw the fillets unless you use the same size end mill - which I personally do not have. Mainly I use for pockets a 6 or 8 mm end mill.

Thanks for the feed back. The video was made to show the technique, not how to optimize it. If I were doing this process in production there are many ways to drop the milling time. Perhaps I should revisit this topic with a mind towards showing how to optimize the process? What do you think?

Stephanie Sulik you can use a bit extender. They are fairly inexpensive. Hope this helps.
