In Battlefront's own words:
"Combat Mission Shock Force 2 finally updates the ground breaking Shock Force 1 game setting to the current Game Engine 4 environment. Due to massive changes over the last 10 years of Combat Mission development the updating and upgrading of the original content to current standards was no small task. Most of the 3D models had to be rebuilt, reskinned, and reintegrated into brand new TO&E coding. All original scenarios and campaign games had to be checked out, tweaked, and generally improved so they retained the balance and excitement of the originals. Fans of the original game will find that this is much, much more than a new coat of paint."
"Take command of US Stryker Brigade Combat Teams (SBCT) and Heavy Brigade Combat Teams (HBCT) to fight against Syrian Army Infantry, Mechanized and Armored units in an arid setting. Experience the full range of modern threats to conventional military forces, including irregular combat forces, terrorists, spies, suicide bombers, IED's and other deadly tools employed in the asymmetric warfare of the modern day. Play the Task Force Thunder campaign, more than a dozen carefully crafted battles, or unlimited Quick Battles."

This mission is really great for beginner, it teach you to move infantry using micro terrain, using target arc to observe the enemy and most importantly learn to fear The ATGM !!

I didn't learn any of that haha. My infantry sat for 20 min with a target arc seeing nothing until I moved them over the crest and got immediately blasted by an MG.

A good reminder that the scouts don't always spot everything, so never assume all is clear. Something i learned the hard way with this mission. I agree it is a good learning mission especially if you fail a few times and learn from your mistakes.

There's a weird thing in CMSF2 with ATGMs, they're very resistant to spotting until you roll a vehicle into sight. The most extreme example I've seen of this is engaging a building with occupying infantry at 50yds, and using a Brad for support. As soon as the Brad rolls up an AT team _in the garden_ makes itself known... If you've ever done the TF Thunder campaign, there's a beast of a scenario named 'Into the Valley' that is similar to this mission, but much bigger.

This is probably the single most imporant rehearsal mission for CMSF2 and CMBS. It teaches you pretty much all the techniques you need to use.

I agree this is a good newbie scenario. Not too many forces but quite a few small tactical problems. I moved one of my Brads to the right side to get lines onto the enemy troops, but I tried then to employ the hummer with the sight there, although I'd got it hull down, something still blew it away. Creeping along the left flank gives you some nice cover to bop in and out of, if you read the ground carefully.

Great work again, UH. I'm not a newbie by any stretch, but I still want to give this scenario a go. It looks like there are some potential banana skins. I always play on Iron setting, which may or may not make a difference. I might try the optional C2 rules too, to make it even more of a challenge

Do a report from the Syrian side. On the higher difficulty settings it can be really difficult because the US can detect and engage before the Syrians have even pinged them. Essentially they AT assets get 1 chance before being turned to pink mist so if they don't get the first round on with 1960s/70s era kit they die. Would be good to see what you can do with the defenders even against the AI.

  • @usuallyhapless9481

To be fair the AT-4s, despite being old tech, can really trade quite well with anything short of a Leo or an Abrams. If you have uncons in a high civilian density setting and a keyhole, you can get 2, sometimes 3 shots off before the US side can get some fire back on you.

@@usuallyhapless9481 one way to give the ai a chance or make things more difficult in general in single player is have house rules to limit the use of area fire. I use are fire or call arty only when a unit has a contact icon with the enemy unit. I wait for the information of were the enemy is to be passed on. For example i never fire on a building with a tank from the other side of the map as soon as I know the enemy it's there. If after some time i click on the tank and it can "see" the enemy contact icon on the building then i allow myself to area fire it with the tank.

@@federicosantoro7100 I have been doing the same. Technically, I think it meets the intent of the command and control and against the AI, makes the scenario a bit more challenging and fun. Of course, in a really tough scenario, it is hard to stick to those role playing rules.
