When Shiner out of a long hiatus with the debut of their latest album Schadenfreude in 2020, they put their tour in support of the new album on hold-along with the rest of the bands in the world. Now, while Shiner finally pummels audiences with their sonic onslaught on tour across the country, the band stopped into the shop to give us a knuckle sandwich of their new material. More about Shiner!
The group formed in 1992, and quickly found wide exposure, releasing a vinyl EP in 1993 and touring with acts such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Chore, Jawbox, Season to Risk, The Jesus Lizard, and Girls Against Boys. The group released their first LP, Splay (recorded at Steve Albini's Chicago studio) in 1996, and a second album, Lula Divinia the next year. Sub Pop took notice, and released a 7" single of the group's songs "Sleep it Off" and "Half Empty". Following this the band toured with Hum in 1998. A third full-length, Starless, was released on a label run by members of Descendents, Owned and Operated, in 2000. A fourth LP, The Egg, would follow before the group broke up in 2002. This was recorded and produced at Matt Talbott's recording studio, Great Western Record Recorders in Tolono IL and released by DeSoto Records.
Shiner broke up in 2003 after more than a year of touring behind The Egg. Their story was by no means an unusual one; they simply ran their course, building up a cult fanbase in a decade of releasing music, and reaching the logical endpoint of that arc. The album "The Egg" grew an audience over time "Yet a funny thing tends to happen when an album is left alone for several years. As file-sharing and social media grew in the time after The Egg was released, so did its stature" Josh Newton is the guitar/synth player/mastermind for Sie Lieben Maschinen with Jason Gerken on drums. Allen Epley is in The Life and Times. Shiner's newest record, Schadenfreude, was released May 8, 2020.[5] The single "Life as a Mannequin" was released February 28, 2020

AWESOME! I grew up listening to these guys, even got to see them live a couple times and my rinky-dink band opened for them once. Most people have Zep or Sabbath, for me it was bands like Shiner, Failure, Plexi, Traindodge, Riddle of Steel... Amazing upload, thank you so much!

We have a lot in common, my brother. Only, I found all those bands since 2013 onward. And I'm very happy about that!
Looove Shiner. My little rooty poo of a band had the pleasure of opening for them 22 years ago in Fort Collins, Colorado, on the CSU Campus. Houston was also on the bill.
Can't believe we get some HD Andalusia after all this fucking time. Absolutely amazing.
I'm rewatching this for, like the fifth time since the video was published. There's just too little Shiner live with professional sound. Thank you CME! And thank you SHINER for always rocking out!

@@dryremark17 Oh yeah, that would be really cool! But I'll be happy with A LOT of new videos too. :)
Allen's Tele should be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
I saw these fellas at Spacebar Columbus a couple years ago. There were maybe 20-30 people total in the entire place including the bands. I was shocked but the show was fantastic.
Off timing pioneers of heavy alternative. Frontrunners. You couldn't even describe this. Absolutely amazing.
Great band, great mix. That drummer's snare might be the most perfect sounding live snare I've ever heard.

Something in the water up in those parts. Bryan St Pere from Hum always had an amazing snare sound too. Tim Dow is another great drummer from that area.
Saw these guy in a bar in 2002 opening for someone else. They were amazing. Been a fan since. Glad to see them rocking again.
Sooo Cool, i love your Music so much! 🥰
Oh man, how I love this band! The soundscapes, the beats, the bass, the chords, the voice, the songs!!
This is the best live production Ive ever heard from Shiner. I wish every live show sounded like this, especially the vocals. Rock on Allen....we've met a couple of times.
These guys are really good, I'm glad I came across them when googling hum and failure.
Absolute heroes!
Christ Sized Shoes is so so good. Hell, this whole set is great. These guys rock!
Just found these guys. So much to listen to in this group at any given moment!!! what kind of bass does Paul have here?
@arjunapartha
Жыл бұрын
Not sure.. but, I am sure that his main bass is and always has been a Fender Precision Elite (yeah Elite- with active electronics) His main amp Mesa 400+ and tube screamers that are modded and blacked out, with the knobs ripped off - no one can ever see the settings.

a bit late but it’s made by a guy called Justin Mantooth (who, if you’ve watched the Shiner rig rundown, did up the neck on Paul’s Squier P)
Love this band and that Albini snare sound :)
LOUDER! MAKE IT LOUDER! super stoked to hear Unglued especially
So sick!
holy shit (literally), Christ Sized Shoes sounds so good here
Shiner is one of my all time favorite bands. SOOOO great to see them still playing. I can only hope I can see them live again in CA! They still sound fantastic.
Incredible. Was fortunate to see them live a few times pre pandemic. Also love the life and times. Hope to see Alan again live soon.
Q: Alan, Paul, Josh; How many pedals? A: Yes. All of them please.
So good to see these guys still killing it
I opened for the Life and Times in 2012 in like, the absolute shittiest music venue in New Jersey. It lead to the dissolution of that band soon after as I tried to get us to change our sound to be as similar to this as possible. It was a real a-ha moment for me.
The verse part in "Andalusia" in this performance might be the platonic ideal of an overdriven guitar tone. Damn that sounds good. Band is tight af, esp for these gents who are starting to get up there in years. Never could truly get into this band like their contemporaries in Failure or Hum but I respect them and I've spun "The Egg" a fair amount in the past 2 decades. The first track here from the post reunion lp sounded quite good too.
Subscribed just for this. What an awesome little Shiner retrospective! Thanks CME!
Been a fan since Josh Newton was a part of The Full Effect. Truly amazing band.
Sounds incredible. Great mix!
Holy shit. These guys are amazing.
All hail Shiner!

The DARK MAVIS !!! (a.k.a. Mark Davis) = baddest sound engineer/raddest dude I’ve ever had the privilege of working or traveling with, and it makes me incredibly happy to know these Thunderbringers have him in tow… Did the Mavis run sound for this little shindig?

The songs are excellent. Listening to Shiner talk is great and informative. The interviewer makes me cringe though. He is awkward. That bit about “we started this thing off very weird“ sounds rather inappropriate. I did not perceive anything very weird before he said that. The only thing that was weird to me was him saying that it started off “very weird”. Then the comment about “too many switches under the feet“. I would’ve chosen different wording. Maybe “lots of” or “tons of”, but “too many” is pompous sounding and judgmental. No need to trash talk Failure, even if it’s a slight.
I love this guys!
