Cutch push rod should bounce back freely after pushing in just by hand. This push rod not so responsive after pushing.. I am going through worst situation now. My push rod slide out by accident and bent, after straitening the rod it almost goes all the way in but toward the end it stops as it's facing some kind abstraction . I still don't know how to go about it or to open other side of Clutch plates assembly and find out what is the problem.

Im having the same issue. I changed the oil and i was having an issue with the starter staying engaged. Whom ever had the bike before me was an idiot because the starter pin that locks on too the starter gear and main drive gear were missing. I put everything back together and after letting the sealer set i filled it with oil. Starred right up and i let it heat up to take it around the block. Pulled the clutch in and shifted the bike into 1st. The bike lurched forward into gear and i cant seem to figure out why the clutch isnt engaging now. All the adjustments on the cable seem right but i must have done something or didnt do something when i put the drive plate back on. Starting to think it needed to be in first gear when i installed the crankcase cover. Im about to leane the bike over and take it back off too try and see if that solves it. Because it was in 1st gear when i removed it but i shifted it into neutral to move the bike back some. So it was in neutral when i installed it. Anyone have any thoughts on this or have an idea on where i took a hard right into a straight left turn? Its an 81 virago 750 just in case anyone is wondering

the clutch pushrod should be a touch loose. you'll have a a spec in the Yamaha manual. Usually you have to wind it in to the point of contact and back it off a certain ammount as per the manual. On harleys its 1/2 to 3/4 turn. It's all about the actuator rod expanding when your engine heats up causing the clutch to disengage early..

Shaft has to be time/position where lever can fit in horizontally and make sure shaft cannotmove freely counterclockwise. What I did was take the jam nut out , loosen the adjusting stud all the way so shaft can be push and pull to reposition. Once in the right position, turn adjusting screw clockwise until shaft stay in place. Reinstall lever and you can now adjust clutch stud. Clockwise until there’s friction, back out 1/4 turn.

I eventually adjusted it to work. I think the clutch plates where swollen since when cold the clutch didn't want to be free. When hot it worked fine. I sold this bike in 2011, got a BMW! Then sold that after the kids came..

Hey so I just fixed this tonight. I has to take the nut off and make sure that the arm was locked in on the shaft. I held it all together and put the washer and nut back on with a little space. While holding onto everything I tightened the adjustment screw all the way down and tightened the nut to hold everything. Then I loosen the nut just alittle and loosend the adjustment screw just a bit and then tightened that nut down. Make sure you tighten that bitch down

@@daylenhill2983 its actually simple. Take the left side cover off. Lean the bike over so all the oil drains to the right side. Make sure the bike is in first gear before hand. When its off, pay attention to the adjuster part. Make sure its rotated to its resting position. The part the adjustor sits on should be pointing to the 2 o'clock 3 o'clock position. Kinda inbetween so 230. Back off the locking nut and screw it down to where theres only about 3 threads left past the nut. You want it to sit against the rod as much as possible. Then seal both the cover and housing with sealant and let it dry for the time it says. Put the bike back on the kick stand. Squeeze the cluch handle and it should be hard to do so. Thats what ya want. Back the nut off a quarter turn but make sure you use a screw driver to keep the rod from spinning. Pull the clutch again and see if it has engaged by pushing the bike forward. Keep repeating thag step untill the clutch engages and the bike rolls. Keep the bike in first gear the entire time ya do so. That will solve it i promise

Listen to me people. Loosen clutch cable at handle bar about a full 6 turns. Loosen the nut while holding the clutch pin with the appropriate Phillips. Use the right screwdriver or you WILL rout it out and then you're fucked. Loosen nut to ONLY loosen, then with the screwdriver bring clutch pin out and then tighten till you just feel resistance from the basket. MAKE SURE THE ARMATURE HAS NOT SLIPPED OUT OF PLACE. DON'T REMOVE SPRING! Now, back out the clutch pin A TURN AND A HALF. Tighten nut down. Retighten clutch cable and ride you're damn bike!
