I was at the two games against Phoenix in 94 when they blew two 20 point fourth quarter leads. The second was on mothers day. People got to remember this was right after the Oilers blew a 31-3 lead against buffalo in the playoffs. Every Houston sports fan said "here we go again". I thought it was over also, but still watched game 3. Vernon Maxwell went off in the third quarter, it really kicked off that magical run that resulted in two championships. Greatest time of my life.

I was at Game 2 for that series against Phoenix in '94 as well. I remember waiting at the bus stop for the bus to start heading home after that game, and seeing the charter bus with all of the Suns fans on it, and I was so ticked and disappointed. Then Clutch City happened, and they turned it all around! After that series finished, I was just picturing how all of those Suns fans felt then. :)

If the pheonix suns manage to took command on both the 94 and 95 series , leading 2-0 in 94 and 3-1 in 95 and that with back injurd often barkley , then the bulls could beat them easely , because they beat thd suns in 93 in 6 games . Houston had many break downs during the playoffs and the bulls would size it , what the suns and even NY could'nt

The Suns played small ball sometimes having outside shooters at the C position which gave the Rockets defense problems. The Bulls didn't play small at C so the Rockets wouldn't have the same defensive problems there it's about matchups.

@@masterelmstreet5886 "Michael Jordan Once Revealed His ‘Great Respect’ for the Rockets and Doubted Whether the Bulls Could Have Beaten Houston in the NBA Finals" Google that MJ actually admitted it himself, I would post the link myself but the comments section doesn't allow links to be posted anymore. The Bulls had pretty tough series with the Riley Knicks and I feel the Rockets would be an even more difficult matchup with them having a more athletic frontline compared to the Knicks, more shooters overall, and Rudy Tomjanovich's complex facilitating system which consisted of team ball rather than the standard system where the PG was the focal point of it.

Something people always forget. The rockets were very lucky that the Seattle Sonics were upset 2 years in a row. That's the one team that Houston had problems with. Sonics beat them in 1992-93 season in 7 and then SWEPT them in 96. I don't think rockets win back to back titles if they played Seattle again.

  • @paulstewart11

new0033 That may be true, but I'm not sure of that. Houston could have (and probably should have) won game 7 in Seattle in the 1993 playoffs. I remember when Houston and Seattle played each other back then, the home team won (regular season and playoffs) every game for at least one season. Game 7 was in Seattle though, and while Houston controlled most of that game and got some bad officiating at the end of the game, Seattle came out on top in overtime. Honestly, as a Rockets fan...there was no other team in the NBA that I looked more forward to playing than the Supersonics. They had our number as much as anyone else, although the Knicks weren't exactly a good matchup for us either. We matched up better against the Suns and the the Bulls...but it's hard to just say "we would have beaten the Bulls" both times if Jordan never left. Wish it would have happened, as it would have been a tremendous couple of series. The Bulls, Knicks, Rockets, Sonics and Suns were the elite teams of that era...with the Pacers, Jazz and Spurs a notch below them. That said, 1996 was a completely different Rockets team that was nothing at all like the '93, '94, or '95 Rockets teams. Talking about how Seattle swept them in '96 is like talking about how the Bulls swept the Pistons in '91. That doesn't diminish any of the Rockets or Pistons teams of previous years. You still may be right though...Seattle was the #1 seed, and Houston would have had to play them in Seattle again in '94 if the Sonics advanced. That just goes to show how difficult it is to win it all. You can be an elite team...but even the elite teams have at least one team that they do not match up well against head to head. That Nuggets team that beat Seattle overachieved, but they were underrated and very spunky.

new0033 First of all, if Seattle was so good how come they lost in the 1st round 2 years in a row to inexperienced playoff teams? Not Houston's fault that Seattle were playoff underachievers. And Seattle was not a bad matchup for Houston at first, after the 7 game series ended the Sonics own coach George Karl said "I don't know who is the better team, these 2 teams are so close it's unbelievable". Seattle became a bad matchup when Throrpe and Maxwell were gone as Houston became more of a perimeter shooting team. Houston wasn't a good defensive or rebounding team when they won their 2nd championship, they were just motivated that year because they wanted to repeat to show critics they weren't a flash in the pan team. Their defensive and rebounding problems just happened to finally catch up with them after they repeated.

Then fast forward to now. Ask them "Why you think Beverley can guard Steph Curry? Curry smoked him in the regular season" Then Rockets fans be like "Yea...but that was the regular season" Sooo.....which is it?? Regular season matters or nah

ThePdmd1 The real reason the Bulls struggled with the Rockets is because the Rockets had a major frontcourt edge as Horry was a bad matchup for Pippen. There was a noticeable pattern in the regular season games (most notably the 1992-93 and 1994-95 seasons) where Horry usually shot 50% or better w/Pippen guarding him because Horry could just shoot over Pippen at 6-10 and Horry consistently held Pippen to low shooting percentages as Horry didn't need double team help to contain Pippen because of his size. Most teams usually double teamed Pippen leaving other people open.

ThePdmd1 The Rockets were a worse match up for the Bulls than the Jazz were. Plus both the 1993-1994 and 1994-1995 Rockets are better than the 1997 and 1998 Jazz. The Bulls beat the Jazz in the playoffs? Well, so did Houston. So yes, in the end the fact that Rockets gave the Bulls trouble and were a difficult match-up for the Bulls is important.

+ThePdmd1 Jordan was Isiah & co's whipping boy 3 years in a row when he played the full season. Bird swept his ass too. It ain't Houston's fault Chicago WITH MJ couldn't beat Orlando. And he's a career loser vs Houston. So you're not telling the "whole" story of Jordan's career, just 91-93 & 96-98.
