I have three Robusta clumping bamboo plants and two Scabrida clumping bamboo plants in my yard. See how fast they grow to their full height.

    I have some beautiful clumping bamboo plants in my yard that are tropical plants that should not be doing well in my climate (Zone 8 area). My temps get to 20 degrees sometimes and the plant leaves will burn a bit, but these plants are huge and recover quickly. These are great plants to have when you garden, since you can build so many things with bamboo (trellises, birdhouses, etc). I have beautiful yellow/green culms and dark green. Love my bamboo!

    If you're serious about eating your bamboo, you may choose not to use Miracle Grow. Also do a soil test, especially if the bamboo is planted near a wooden fence. Many fence wood have toxic preservatives (ie: arsenic as well as pesticides). Some people don't want to consume arsenic, unless you're trying to build your arsenic tolerance in case you think someone may poison you ... haha!

    Hello. Two years ago I planted 7 bamboo trees along my fence. I was told by the nursery that they were clumping bamboos. To make story short 2 years later i found out they were running bamboos because there were tons of new culms popping up my yards. I rototiller the yard and dug up the stalks. I used vinegar, salt and dish soap to kill the remaining culms. It's pretty much contained. My question is how long do i have to wait to actually know if all the rhizomes are dead? Will they come and grow again? Thanks.

  • @myboringchannel

    @myboringchannel

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good question. I don’t know. If you dug them up within two years you probably got them all. I started out with running bamboo and I kept it about two years. It wasn’t too hard to get rid of. I was wondering the same thing but if you do a thorough job of digging them out you’re probably good.

  • @ameliawest8896

    @ameliawest8896

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@myboringchannel thanks for the quick response. It's only been a month when this happened. Everyday i check for new shoots. And everytime i see them i dig them out right away. Their stalks were cut up in segments due to rototilling the yard. But some of the stalks still have live rhizomes and that's what I'm still dealing right now. Not much though. They're kind of yellowish so it means they're dying for lack of water or maybe the mix vinegar and salt I've been pouring. I cut the culms then pour the mix vinegar into it's tube. In that way the vinegar will run thru it's stalks killing the entire growth. I'm just afraid that if i plant new plants or grass back and start watering that area, bamboos may come growing again. They're just grass or weeds. You start watering them, feeding them, and they'll come back to life all over again. Maybe i should wait for a year?

    What was the reason why you replace your spectabilis running into a clumping? We had clumping before and after 6 years, it was declining and the middle part looks dead. I live in zone 9 btw. Did you put a barrier around your clumping? And running as well? I am jealous at how beautiful your grove looks. use a thing like "underground fence" to control the roots is a must (not know what is it called), if not, it will grow under the fence. better not grow near neighbors fence, because when the bamboo flowering, the seeds drop to neighbors yard, will need to pay for it and dig them out.

I live in the city of clovis ca in a corner lot house...I wanna know if planting bamboo for privacy will be good in my case? I want something that does not grow too big and also something easy to maintain. Been looking at evergreens too..to be honest don't know what to plant there? Another option was to lay concrete all tje way to fence and put trees, plants or whatever on pots for privacy..
