CLUB MED - PARADISE ISLAND - 1981 - BAHAMAS - 1980's

HI CLUB MED FANS,
This is a slideshow of our Club Med vacation to Paradise Island 1981. The first part has brochures from the 1980's & 1990's and the second part shows our pics of the club, G.M.'s and G.O.'s.
(Week of June 21, 1981).
Club Med was sure fun and Paradise Island was beautiful.
If you see yourself in any of the pictures, please comment or send me an email - I'd love to hear from you. If you have any pictures from this week, I'd love to see them.
The brochure scans are taken from my personal Club Med brochure collection from the 1980's and 1990's. Since there are so few pics of Club Med on the net, I included scans from different years, not just 1981.
99% of the pictures were taken by me (a couple of scenery pics were borrowed off the net).
These Club Med videos are meant to be fun - I hope you enjoy the pictures and the music.
Tom and Mary Kennedy

So sad that it is gone. We were there in 1985 on our honeymoon. Always wanted to go back. It was great seeing the pictures!

I was there fall of 1980. Two people that left an impression on me were a male GO named Guy (pronounced Ge, not the American Gy, he told us). He had come there not speaking English and was conversing and teaching GM’s very effectively. The other was a very overweight young female GO that danced with the others, wore two piece bathing suits and did not show any of the insecurities that I was plagued with, being about the same size as she was. I loved my week there. The extra little excursions for snorkeling, the picnic on another little island, the “authentic” cozy, Mexican dinner. It was my first experience tasting Sangria which seemed to flow almost like the water we were surrounded by. These pictures have brought back so many wonderful memories. Thank you

I was there in June of 1981. The video and photos were very bittersweet for me. Had the most wonderful of times there and met a man who became my best "go to" guy for 31 years until his passing in 2012. That being said, it was great to see the photos and remember the feelings.

My husband & I were married in Oct. 1981 & we spent our honeymoon on Paradise Island the last week of October. We had the best time participating in the many activities & enjoying the awesome shows, especially the "Mexican hat dance"!😂 The island was beautiful & the water a spectacular clear blue. We still have our pareos that we wore during much of our time there.

My wife and I met at this club in sept of 1981, very romatic atmosphere. I still remember the long paths, macrame hangings, nice people and feeling young and carefree. Good times. Frank B.

Thanks you so much for this video and reviving those fond memories. I was PR that season. I am one of the 2 GOs pictured with Mary ( Mary and I are the 2 without a moustache). Thierry was the Chef de Village, Mehdi (with the straw hat) the Chief of Sports and Franky (the prisoner) was the animator. I still see him (last time was 3 weeks ago) . I do remember you and your group: sometimes the GMs help the GOs spend a great week also.. Thanks again !!!

I was a GO in 1984, Winter Season. CdV Patrick. Lived in GrayLeath. Some of my best friends came out of this experience. Will never forget it. OH! I recall a rumor this season that Mick Jaeger had a house on the property right next door that he was 'in town' then. We went out to the beach every day to look, but alas, we never saw him. OTHER celebs we saw - never naming names, but it wasn't Mick. Thanks so much for sharing!

Yes! And I loved the alabaster Poseidon statue next to the big pool and the mirror under the diving board. It felt so old Hollywood. I lived in the Mirror Room for a bit.

I was in Paradise Island, way back in 1978. It was our Senior Class trip. My Late Father thought it was elitist, and wouldn't get off the ground (the poor kids wouldn't be able to afford it.) But, actually, there was a vote with three options: NYC, Toronto or Paradise Island. We chose the priciest of the three. Kind of a ripoff, actually. About $400 dollars. Flew in the middle of the night both ways. Stayed at the Holiday Inn. Four to a room, two to a bed. The other boy in my bed is now a woman (Hey-I'M straight!) We visited Nassau. Locals tried to sell us marijuana-probably undercover cops. We were warned at orientation about entrapment. We all knew there was a private nude beach at Club Med. The Principal was our chaperone. He was mostly drinking, and riding a golf cart. The drinking age was not enforced. Within a few months, it would be back up to 21 here in Michigan(!) One of my roommates was a macho moron with a girlfriend. Had a motorcycle back home. You know the type. I saw him at my twentieth reunion. He works in retail at the local department store. His wife is not the same girl he had on the trip with him. They had a newspaper piece about finding cocaine in a diver's aqualung. But-all the while, The Bahamas was a transshipment point for Pot and Coke from Columbia. We signed up for a scuba trip, but the boat didn't show up. Also did a Robinson Crusoe expedition where "Friday" cooked our Grouper. I made a few friends down there (I had actually transferred from another school that year.) Went to a Discotheque with them stateside. Mom wasn't happy that I was "running around underage!" with a phony ID, but she was really part of an ethnic group who are overprotective of their children. When Premed started, I didn't have time for much. In my Internship year, I went to Hedonism in Negril. I was 30 years old. Not much action for me...mostly "swapping" couples.
