Cloudless ULEP-1 Stratospheric UAV
Ғылым және технология
Next performance tests of our reliable stratospheric UAV. ULEP-1 is a HALE / HAPS demonstrator, Earth Observation platform with better resolution than VHR satellites and near-space research platform.

So start thinking about a PIR foam container. This is the obvious solution to the issue of stratospheric temperatures. Judging by the moderate stiffness of the entire structure, the ENTIRE hull was made of this foam.

@@voornaam3191 now you mention it I do know that (strictly speaking) cells have an internal resistance, so that rapid discharge will create heating, quite how effective this might be I don't know, all of this relates the maxim 'a 10 degree Centigrade/Celsius increase in temperature doubles the rate of a chemical reaction' which is why electrical cells work so poorly at low temperatures - a factor very much effecting electric vehicles.

@@pcka12 As the flight of this plane showed, somehow the battery did not freeze. And I bet dollars against peanuts that no one did any sealing of the battery. Why? Because the battery heats up when under load... And rather, the battery needs to be cooled rather than heated or particularly protected against frost. I am absolutely sure that PIR foam is a completely sufficient solution in this case.
that is pretty awesome
Brilliant!
what is the wind like that high?
We've seen solar panels put on the tops of wings, but I wonder how effective solar panels on the bottom of this airplane would be with all the light bouncing off of the cloud layer.
