Close-up of Walking Stick Insect

bukaymedia.com/ Here are some video and close up images of the Walking Stick Insect I photographed in Pt. Richmond, California. It was about 5" long. Walking Stick insects are fairly common in our neighborhood but hard to see due to their camouflage. They remind some people of Praying Mantises; however, unlike the former, Walking Sticks are herbivores. For more info check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phasmatodea. here is a great link to a close up video of a different kind of Walking Stick feeding: • Video .

I moved to Pt. Rich. recently. I have one clinging to the sliding door frame right now. My first experience encountering one, other than a family friend who is an entomologist ....he had some that he'd take around to the local schools to "wow" the kids with. Now that I know they are here I will look closer. I Googled "walking stick, Pt Richmond, Ca" and got to your video here. Now I know they are fairly common here. thanks for the info and the vid.

What camera did you use? I made a video recently showing one I found outside our home. It had a missing leg. I let it go and then my wife found it dead clinging to the wall out front.
