Close To You Carpenters HQ audio

I found the original, very low quality video of this classic. Then added the CD audio. It took quite a few hours with Sony Vegas to get it close.

One of the most beautiful songs ever performed. Saddest of all, she never knew how good she was. One of the most pitch perfect singers of all time. When she recorded "superstar" the number one hit. She read the lyrics off a napkin, and the first take was perfect. That is the recording you here on the record. Amazing

And...From.several documentaries I've seen ...She didnt want to come out front....and just be the lead - "Front Woman" figure the promoters insisted on. She just wanted to be...as seen here...part of the band. behind an instrument....because she had a horrible perception of her own self image. Had they listened to her wishes...Had they cared. . at all ..about the slowly dieing angel..She very well couldve survived.

Karen had such a deep, sultry voice. She could sing in a range typically only meant for men, but her voice was so pleasant and smooth in that range it was simply beautiful. It’s a real shame the psychological disorder she suffered which led to her premature death. What a talent to lose. A one of a kind voice that will never be repeated. RIP Karen. You’ll never be forgotten since you had a voice for the ages. No musical fads or other genre of music that fades along with the talent that made up that particular genre. No, Karen’s voice was pure and her music untainted. Just music with no fads or other stylized music in a box. She just produced great music that will stand the test of time. That voice will live forever.

She was perfect just the way God-made her I don't know How she could be convinced otherwise. Resting peace Karen Carpenter. Did you notice that there's no overlay With her. Background vocals have Harmony from different people at the same time. when she sings it's just her beautiful voice only. This early with the right kind of help she could have overcome. It was the Epicac That finally did it.

Actually for the backing vocals, Karen and Richard over dubbed their voices over each others to get their harmonies. All of their early albums theirs is the only vocals. They were very talented.

I heard this unexpectedly on the radio and its great beauty hit me like a ton of bricks. Such sincere sweetness and such elegant simplicity. I hate that radio overplay in the 70s ruined it for generations to come. It’s time for a comeback. ❤️

My most favorite memory of this song is when one of my older sisters handed me the phone, after she dialed, and asked me to ask the DJ to play this song. My sister must have called in 20 times already, and I guess she thought if a different person requested the song perhaps the DJ would play it sooner. Anyway, the DJ was Skinny Johnny Mitchell in Salt Lake City. When he answered the phone I requested this song, and he asked me if I was the same person who kept calling in, and I told him no. And he said that he didn't like liars, and I responded by saying, "No! I'm a boy!!" Knowing that it was my sister that was likely the one who kept calling in, and was a girl, of course. But you know what, I'll bet there were several others who kept calling in that same night requesting this song. Man! We're talking around 50 years ago! Thank heaven we can listen to any song we want to at any time! God bless Burt Bacharach, Hal David, and The Carpenters!

Karen performed at Harrah's in Tahoe in 1970. We had a home in the same cove where Harrah's performers stayed. Karen was floating out in the cove and I watched her 50 feet away, falling in love with her. Purest female baritone voice ever.

As someone that is old enough to have heard her live, this tune is haunting to me. I was thinking about Karen and Judith Durham and the Seekers. These two are simply have the strongest voices female sounds with such ranges and pitches way up there. but I have to say Karen Carpenter is the best but Judith is a close second.
