Interestingly enough, when Alec resolved Bolas's Citadel from Tibalt's Trickery, he would have been able to stay in his main phase and use it that same turn. There is a rule that says if a player casts a spell or uses an ability in response to you moving phases, you can choose to continue play in that phase after that spell or ability is resolved. Basically since there's technically no "going to end step" phase, the game keeps the active player in their main phase while the stack is emptied, at which point they can continue to play in their main phase, or attempt to move to end step again. Since Eddie cast his spell in response to the attempted phase change rather than in the end step itself, this means Alec would have still been in his main phase with priority after the stack was emptied. Obscure rule, makes a huge difference tho!

@@terriblenorwegiangaming547 500.2 A phase or step in which players receive priority ends when the stack is empty and all players pass in succession. Simply having the stack become empty doesn’t cause such a phase or step to end; all players have to pass in succession with the stack empty. Because of this, each player gets a chance to add new things to the stack before that phase or step ends. Key phrase is all players must pass priority in succession. If any one player responds before a phase actually ends, priority goes back to the active player when the stack is emptied and priority has to go around again before the phase is ended. In short, saying "go to end step" actually means "I'm passing priority with the stack empty, if everyone does the same, I'll enter my end step". It doesn't set you on an unstoppable path to the end step. Hope this helped, good luck with your deck!

So as long as you have one target after casting a spell, the spell resolves. It's why they have started making cards like prismari command target a player for the treasure, so that way if you sacced the creature it was dealing 2 damage to, you still get the treasure.

When the congregation was countered before the player moved to his end step and flipped into bolas citadel, he could have used the citadel to cast off the top of the library. The spell cast before he could go to end step means he's still in second main and can do further effects until he chooses to again try to move phases. Great game tho!

Once that stack fully resolved, bolas's citadel would be in play in the second main, with the active player having priority.

I’m pretty sure that Saheeli’s Artistry doesn’t fizzle on the second target. It obviously can’t copy an artifact that is no longer there but it will still attempt to resolve to the best of its ability and copy the creature. Removing one target doesn’t fizzle the entire effect. Much like decimate. It needs a legal target for both modes to be selected but not to resolve the spell.

Other changes to the game state may cause a target to no longer be legal; for example, its characteristics may have changed or an effect may have changed the text of the spell. If the source of an ability has left the zone it was in, its last known information is used during this process. *The spell or ability is countered if all its targets, for every instance of the word “target,” are now illegal.* If the spell or ability is not countered, it will resolve normally. However, if any of its targets are illegal, the part of the spell or ability’s effect for which it is an illegal target can’t perform any actions on that target, make another object or player perform any actions on that target, or make that target perform any actions. The effect may still determine information about illegal targets, though, and other parts of the effect for which those targets are not illegal may still affect them.

Fun game with cool decks. The Saheeli's Artistry would still resolve and give a copy of Accomplished Alchemist. It doesn't need every target to resolve, just one legal target to avoid fizzling. Also Alek could continue to cast spells in his second main after the Tibalt's Trickery into Citadel. Since they responded to him trying to change phases he was still in his second main and is not forced to try and move to end step again instantly.

Mystic Remora reminded me of something I found out about cumulative upkeep. How it works is each upkeep you place an upkeep counter on it and then pay mana equal to the number stated on the card times how many upkeep counters are on it. Well, with Solemnity you can ignore the placement of said counters on cards with cumulative upkeep, thus removing said cost. Just a funny thing I found I am sure many others have as well.

The phase only ends when everyone passes priority with the stack clear according to rule 117.4. If all players pass in succession (that is, if all players pass without taking any actions in between passing), the spell or ability on top of the stack resolves or, if the stack is empty, the phase or step ends. I'm so happy to see these episodes. I've watched mitch make all these interesting decks, it's really awesome to see them being played on KZread. That being said, someone tell eddy to let someone else win.

Great game! We don’t play infinite combos in my pod because it makes the rest of the game feel pointless. But the whole video was entertaining nonetheless!

My thoughts exactly! At the very least, not infinite combos that win you the game that turn. At least give non-blue players a chance to respond to a game ending threat

When Alek's bolas's citadel comes into play still his main phase. He absolutely CAN play thing. He and the table says he can't because he already tried to move to his end step. All that means is he passed priority during Main 2. Remember that after each item on the stack is dealt with (e.g. resolved, fizzles, etc), each player will get priority again. So main 2, alek passes priority. Spells happen and it results in a citadel in play. The stack clears and priority comes back to him as the active player. It's still main 2 so he can go nuts.

@@TheCommandersQuarters You are doing a great job and I am super excited for the future of Close Quarters! (My 2 cents if you'll take it) The main thing that determines depth of field will be the cameras f-stop setting. The lower the f-stop (f1 to f5.6) will have a more shallow depth of field but allow alot more light in. A high f-stop (f8 to f22) will provide a much deeper depth of field, but will darken the image. It's all about balancing the f-stop, ISO, and shutter speed. You've got this, we believe in you!
