    one of the most sensible self defence modules out there, nothings fail safe which is why he says you will get cut when disarming an assaliant or at least to be fully prepared for that even on a good outcome.

    The Guard he describes is exactly what is taught to prison guards if faced with an inmate armed with a bladed weapon... I was told about this by a guy who worked in a prison for over six years. About bloody time someone showed something practical when it comes to knife attacks.

    Actually, 0:28 is taught by the father of RBPP/RBSD Jim Wagner in a 'if you have to' situation. Grabbing the slide means that the gun can't fire as well as it might if the slide isn't grabbed, even if the gun does go off, it won't be able to chamber another round because the slide hasn't moved backward to allow another round to enter the chamber from the magazine, it also means that the slide can't move forward to move the round into the correct position.

    i have a quick question. what are some tatics if the knife is held the other way? i know most fighters hold it blade pointing at the target, but what happens if the person holds it the other way? it seems that would be harder to defend.

    True. But in many countrys like mine (england) concealed weapons are illigal. Even so, if some one comes at you with a knife before your able to pull out your gun, then it's good to know you have a back up deffence in the shape of somthing like the technique in this vid.

    An easier way to gain distance is using the same principles he said in the beginning: "No matter what strike comes at you, you have to move somewhere." The alternative of course is to just get hit. Kick. Violently. You gain distance from the knife to your vital organs, your feet are often protected by something (shoes of any kind, better than bare hands), and a strike is capable of knocking the knife out of the hand or hurting him enough to stop moving. No skill required and a child can do it.

    I think this is a really good self defense system but I think grabbing your opponents arm from above is very risky, he could still slash it at you if he is stronger and it could end up in your chest or stomach, I believe a combat stance approach is better, you must position your torso side ways for better evasion and then it would be much easier to get around the attacker and drop him.

    Yeah, quite solid technique against an unexperienced but brutal aggressor. I thing it might be very dangerous to block and grab the attacking hand. Learned the same in Jiu-Jiutsu some years ago, but since JKD and Kali I suppose you have to destroy with the first Contact to eliminate the thread "UFT1" describes. Watch "Paul Vunak - Knife Defence"... He explains very good what I mean.

    i recon the proof is in training these techniques with the knife holder trying his best to stab the defender eg. with protective gear. anything other than that is speculative.

  • @crackinthekraken
    @crackinthekraken17 жыл бұрын

    Good video, but I'm leery of the backward shuffle you advocate. What if you miss his hand and he comes in for a second stab, or presses his attack some other way? With your butt hanging out behind you, you're off balance and unable to quickly respond to another attack or press forward an attack of your own.

    Yea, I know that knifeattacks mean that I wil get cut (unless by sheer dumb luck this does not happen). We train with magic markers, and each and any painstain on my skin or clothes stands for a cut. My concern with the technique demonstrated here is, that gripping the attacking arm while it advances means great risk of being cut on the inside of my arms - where all the good stuff is -- bloodvessels, sinews etc - or, since Mr. Zwiers goes directly back from what I can tell ..... CONTD

    then youve never seen an armbar. thats the basic armbar position just befor you flop on your back. there's also gracie self defence seminars open to the public (and some private ones for law enforcement) which focus on street situations and that position is explored and usually obtained afer a throw or takedown. its one of many forms of impact control, it is when you make the decision to 1.run 2.detain 3.curb stomp depending on the severity of the situation.

    If the attacker use good knife will cut out your arms/legs/throat. thrust attack is performed only if your enemy is not far from you. if have 10cm blade then attack range must be up to 10cm away. If you try to block,parry or bypass the strike your arms/legs will be slashed in the mid air and will be no longer part of your body. Attack the closest point. Can't beat such attacks with bare hands. If you are unarmed then must run,call for help or use something as weapon.

    'leaving the face open in any circumstance is a liability' - Fighting in general is a liability since there's no fool-proof remedy. You can still be punched in the face even by having your guard up, hence why you rely on footwork, being evasive and react when you see a chance. If someone *like most people* launches several punches/kicks/stabs at you, you'd be pretty stupid to think that you must block the very first strike at all times. Sometimes being evasive is the best defence.
