Close encounters of the third kind is one of my favorite movies of all time. It made me believe that there is something else out there and that we are truly not alone in the universe. Devils tower has a spiritual meaning to the theme of the movie. Love it

IF seeing a mere movie could make you wonder about other intelligent life within our vast universe, you should witness a classic 'flying saucer' fly directly over your house...like I witnessed in the late 60's. Although it was about 10pm and dark, my unshielded front porch light lit up quite well. It wasn't until the next day, as I was telling some coworkers about it, I suddenly realized that although that craft was really low, it never made a whisper. This single sighting motivated me to attend the McMenamins UFO Convention in McMinnville, OR, even though for me it is a 1600 mile drive round trip. There, we met and chatted with many others with similar experiences.....and, my wife attended with me. This is but ONE OF FOUR sightings I've had, but is the one which stays with me and will not go away....close my eyes and 50 years later still 'see' it. Her heart doctor is a HUGE UFO fan, and every time we visit, he and I spend more time chatting about UFOs then we do her heart. If this bothers her, she's never said anything. On the wall in one of his consultation rooms hangs a photo of his best friend standing alongside a ST 1100 Blackbird, which he flew while in the Air Force. The good doc loves to tell about the time when his buddy, while on a routine flight, a classic 'flying saucer' pulled alongside, toyed with them for a bit, then first shot ahead at an 'impossible speed'....it repeated this three times and then flew straight up and out of sight. Many believe our government knows fully well what is going on, but is withholding full UFO disclosure out of fear of upsetting the 'Delicate Religious Rght'.....that we are not the sole intellgence and propriators within this vast universe. I say, Disclose, and let the chips fall wherever they may. Besides, it's way past the time for the 'Delicate religious' to become more farther and much better educated! BHE

Devils Tower is a foot heel Achilles that is worn off, when the flood came they sank into the ground and they broke off one leg after losing their balance, there are many of them in the USA. you see the fracture zone at the top ,this is from a Titan's, this cud be up to 3000 ells or over 11000 tousen foot tall.

@@janbrubakken9598 There is ZERO evidence supporting a simutaneous world wide flood ever have occuring, despite what the bible (100% written by man) claims. Question....If God wanted us to follow some sort of strict regemin, why didn't he simply snap his fingers and provide man with an instruction manual? (Bible...which was written by many MEN)? Would have been so much simpler than creating this two trillion galaxy universe, each packed with 100's of billions of stars we have gradually come to realize we all reside within. Currently, there exist over 2500 religions on this planet....close your eyes and pick one, for it will be just as relaveant as is another. Also, I have, on four separate occasions, going all the way back to the late 60's, witnessed four crafts which were NOT made on this earth....and, I mean up close. This has motivated me to attend the McMenamins UFO convention three times within the last six years, where I've met and chatted with many others who have had similar experiences.....even though for me it is a 1600 mile drive round trip. In a couple of months, my wife and I are going to visit the Devil's Postpile on the eastern side of the Sierras, a natural geologic site I first visited when my two sons were quite young (NOW in their 50's). The Devil's Tower took on an entirely different persona after the movie, Close Encounters.

Loved that movie, most people don’t know that is was based on factual events. Movie producer Robert Emenegger was supposed to get footage of a UFO landing on a military base for a presidential campaign commercial back in the 60’s, at the 11th hour they pulled the plug on it as they felt the public wasn’t ready. Story has it that Spielberg ended up seeing it and it inspired him to make the movie, at the end scene you’ll see Dr Allen Hynek (he was hired by the military for project bluebook), helping Spielberg make the final scene with the exchange of pilots and sending astronauts with the aliens.

I kind of bristled when Mr. Alves said "You see the tower, it represents Close Encounters". That's not what I personally think of when I see the tower, and that film (while entertaining) is *not* what that tower represents in my mind. That tower represents a sacred Native American place to me, as well as the setting for wonderful tales from Native American folklore (namely, the tale of the bears and the seven sisters). I know it's just one man's opinion depicted in that spot, but I genuinely feel really sad to think the Wyoming tourism board might be choosing to highlight the tower's Hollywood connections over its spiritual history among Native Americans. I understand that maybe you feel more people would be attracted by the fact it was used as a location in a classic Spielberg film, but it makes me sad to think that's the primary definition the tower will have in the future. It's so much more than just a movie location. This is just one person's opinion written here, too. I'm not "outraged" or "hating" here. Of course the movie connection is a valid point of attraction for tourists, I just wish Alves hadn't made such a bold statement there. The tower is *so much more* than one movie. If there's another commercial highlighting the tower's rich spiritual history and I've missed it, I will gladly eat my humble pie. If there isn't, perhaps you'd consider making another? I do believe people really would be interested in visiting your beautiful state for that history, too. Thank you for your time.
