Clocks, Timekeeping, and Thomas Jefferson

Ойын-сауық

Clocks, gongs, sundials... the world of Monticello was ruled by Thomas Jefferson’s emphasis on order through timekeeping. ⏰ In this week’s livestreams we focus on Jefferson’s lifelong interest in clocks, and the role that timepieces played in the lives of free and enslaved people at Monticello.
First up, join us for a live clock Q&A with Thomas Jefferson, interpreted by Bill Barker, on Tuesday, November 10, at 1:00 p.m. EST.

“Our nation was founded upon the pursuit of science”. This quote should be repeated more. I visited last April and enjoy learning more from these videos. Thank you.

Excellent job by the actor. As for the character with his pontificating about the mask you can’t fix stupid.

Mr. Jefferson was a learned man of reason and enlightenment who respected other learned men who were his counterparts. He was a scientist and respected other scientists of his time and learned from them. If physicians and scientist of his day had recommended the wearing of a mask to protect oneself and others from disease, he certainly WOULD have obliged this common-sense action and worn a mask, rather than decline to do so out of selfishness and stupidity. As the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said: "Nothing in the world is as dangerous as sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." Mr. Jefferson was guilty of neither, unlike those who refuse to wear a mask at this time. Mr. Khan had the courage to speak truth to power and he and his wife had every right to do so, their only son having sacrificed his life to defend the United States. Truth was unknown to the now-former fascist, er despot, er President. He was a draft dodger ("bone spurs"? Really? No, the reality was that he had no spine!)
