If you’re wondering why the player is sitting down every now and then, it’s because that’s how you recover after something puts your health meter (indicated by Jennifer’s portrait) into the red. She just does it automatically if you stand still for a while, and the game never tells you that’s how it’s done.

Players should explore every room and click on everything. But this video would end up being 3 hours long lol.

I'm honestly shocked at how well this game was presented. Video games tend to fail at emphasizing horror for me, as their "scary" moments don't present themselves in a manner that I can imagine experiencing. This game did everything perfectly. The sounds, the images, the story. I love that they bothered to include multiple solutions, and that everything is polished in a way where the multiple endings make sense and nothing contradicts a particular path. 10 out of 10. Absolutely priceless art presented as a video game.

I hope this gets an official release in the US. Sunsoft barely released Trip World and Gimmick, two of their non world wide releases. I hope they release clock tower or remake it.

If i may say so myself, another shame is that the friday the 13th game was NOT made to be played like Until Dawn. I love UD, one of my favorite games for PS4, and I would just love to see more horror games like that, of course there IS heavy rain and maybe beyond: two souls, but still, I would love another good horror game just like until dawn

I've always thought that this game was inspired by Dario Argento's movie "Phenomena". It has to be. It's too similar to be just a coincidence. The look of the character, her name, the place, the killer. It looks like the movie !

The music is so beautiful and perfect for this game. More appropriate music could never be composed.

The only real complaint I had when I played this game was that the character you play walks so slowly that it is a little frustrating, but I kinda understand why they chose to have her be that slow. It's to have you take time to see your environment and let the tension sink in. Still, I did see it as a little annoying. Great game, though.

Sweet! I was hoping you'd play this series. It's one of the best.

This playthrough took away alot of suspense as you already know what to do. That mannequin room was pretty scary for 1st timers but you just went in and nope lol.

They basically didn't trigger any of the scary events and this felt like a very neutered playthrough. To anyone new to the game, they'd probably think barely anything happens in this game.

Without a doubt this game is product of the times of video rental shops. Dario Argento's movies were one of the popular ones among Japanese horror movie kids (including me) at that time. We were also a video game fans so it's natural to think that the game based on these movie would be awesome. This video game is roughly based on "Suspiria", "Phenomena" and the killer from "The Burning" movie I believe...it was the time where video games were way behind the movie when it comes to its narrative elements. "HUMAN" company, who made this game, also made "Twilight Syndrome" based on Japanese ghost story and urban legend bankrupted in 2000 unfortunately. I still like the vibe of these video games but if these games were made with modern technology, it would look silly, I guess. These games only work well when they're combined with the imagination of the player. Sometimes lack of hi-tech yields better result for art styles...I think that's the reason some indie developers still use "old fashioned" art style for their games today.

I'd love to see a full on remake of this game. Granted I'd be worried it would lose some of it's atmosphere if it were in 3D, had music during the quiet moments etc.

Not a remake in the slightest It's been ported over to modern platforms with some fixes and tweaks and surprise additions, but is very much not a remake

I love the Clock Tower games. I plan to cosplay as Jennifer this year for one of the cons I go to every year.

Yes it is! Basically the colors in your portrait represent your "health". Each color tells about Jennifer's status. Blue means she is completely perfect, and at ease; while red means she is completely weak: meaning she is defenseless against scissorman clocktower.wikia.com/wiki/Panic

Of course graphics can. If processors didn't evolve, improving shadow and lighting for example, Splinter Cell would not exist as a stealth game. Do they always? Of course not, duh. But you're a bit definitive there, my friend.

I disagree. The horror elements of Clock Tower: First Fear are enhanced BECAUSE of the dark and intentional sprite art. By no means are these graphics bad or irrelevant to the gameplay. If anything, it enhances the plot with pure atmosphere.

I just saw an ad that was absolutely horrifying when I clicked on this video. Claymation tree dude pretty much getting devoured by singing sour gummy worms before he smiles.....

Thanks for the video ! I'm finishing a screenshot Let's Play of Clock Tower on PS1, and I wanted to see what the original game was like to get a better understanding of the series. A video without commentary was nice for that... Even though, with its barebone story, I'm getting more questions than answers. I guess it was innovative for 1995 and the SNES. I tought CT on PS1 was silly at times (or downright ridiculous when you can overpower Scissor Man by making him fall on an obvious rope, for example) but the First Fear just feels... Dry. Short yet confusing, and when you play smoothly like you did, you are barely chased by Scissor Man. It begs for more backstory ! I see why people could be scared by this series, but at the same time, I really fail to see how could it be one of the best in its genre. Thanks again anyway, I might look at more of your videos.

+Aro Naar If Sweet Home (an RPG of the NES) could be considered the great-grandfather of the Survival Horror genre, and Alone in the Dark and Resident Evil as the fathers. Clocktower surely was the grandfather. It didn't have any competition at the time it was realesed, so surely it was not the best experience, nor the worst... It was the only experience of the genre known to gamers (Aside, of course, Sweet Home). First Fear actually adds one tiny little bit to the story, and it only expands more into CT2. Well, i did not expect much from an game that tried to bring to games the horror movie experience. xD

Music tells us how we’re supposed to feel and can also give us clues on what could happen, the lack of it is unsettling because we don’t know whether the room we’ve just gone into is a bad one or not because there’s no musical cue UNTIL something happens

the Clock Towel line had me spitting out my drink in laughter when Jon first did it.

I can see why Lord- El Melloi II did not talk about the Clock Tower Background.

In theory, this game is very sad. Imagine being adopted just to be killed. Jennifer's going to carry a lot of trauma for the rest of her life.
