My center barrel is shot, I watched your excellent video and took it out to check part number (it was a #40), but I didn't want to bend the hammer arms because they are aligned so well, so I took off the two screws that hold the whole hammer-arm assembly and removed it and the center barrel came out easy. Only problem is, the tall gear or whatever it's called slipped out ( it must move the hammers?) and I got it back in alright, however now I'm afraid that the timing won't be right because I don't know where it was meshed in. Any tips? Will the clock self-adjust it back to normal? Thanks

I will post a video on how to setup the timing of the chime. It would have been bettered to bend the hammer bars but we together can fix.

Sorry it isn't clear to me whether the spring barrel needs to be unwound before removing the screw and dog. If is is fully or partially wound, will it damage anything when it gets released? Also, what are the signs that the spring needs to be replaced? My quarter chimes don't always complete the cycle (without manual help) even when fully wound and it seems to get worse very quickly. Note - this clock sat for 25 years without running and I think the strike and chime springs were fully wound. The hourly strike seems to work well but like I said, the chime stalls often.
