@@TyrannosaurusSex you missed the point of my comment. I was a child in the 60's and maybe early 70's when this show was in production. Watching this show takes me back to what was a better time in the life of a child who lived through that time period. Politics and war or threat of war was not a concern for us. Its nostalgic for us. I guess you lived through all of that from ww2. What did those wars have to do with the Andy Griffith show

I was born in 1963 and I don't think I've missed one day in my life not seeing at least one episode of the Andy Griffith show. @leo, I’m sure some of that may even be true. Being human means being flawed. The themes back then strived to put forward a positive message, a message of hope. Today, we can’t even define the difference between a man and women. The norm is to call good, bad and bad we accept as good. No, I will take those days any day of the week. At least they tried. We’ve given up.

I had no idea what I was doing, not being familiar at all with fencing (at 25). Nice guy, certainly, and I couldn't help but tell him I must've seen "Rock'n'Roll High School" (where he played Mr. Eaglebauer) two dozen times a couple years earlier (I had come to know the Ramones fairly well, and took friends to see it)!

The spoiled rotten kid with his new bicycle; the time that the ‘guys’ lived alone, while Aunt Bee was away; the female prisoners up in that cabin and Floyd and Barney are their prisoners; the ‘Mr. Scrooge’ old store owner, who keeps trying to be arrested in order to have CHX with the other; when Aunt Bee arrives to take care of Opie (and Andy) and he wants the his newly married sitter to stay; when Opie sneaks in to the elderly ladies potting shed, for extra special flowers - - near the still; and so many others.

Patty Duke’s mother signed her over - - to that couple who worked her half to death and took a large fee, from what she earned. I’ve read the book, where she talks about that couple and that she had wanted to keep her real fist name - - Anna.

Loved this show as a child. My mom died when I was 6 and my Dad raised us (2 boys and a girl). We all lived in my grandmothers house, so this show resonated with me bigtime. The way that Opie looked up to Andy is the way that I felt about my Dad. Such a great show.

I am about 2 years older than Ron Howard, so we are contemporaries. I lived in a small farm town in Northern California for some years as a kid in the early 1960s and it was just like Mayberry. You knew almost everyone in town and parents looked out for all the kids, not just their own. Cars were left unlocked, bikes left in the front yards, and nothing was stolen. Those were great times. I loved living in Winters, California and I loved the Andy Griffith Show

I watched the show as a kid and still watch it. NOBODY was ever more generous with their peanut butter and jam sandwiches than Leon. A true cowboy with a big heart, where actions said so much more than words could ever say. ❤ For the record, I fell hard for "Peggy" when she and Andy sang that love song sitting on the porch of the house. 😢 What a beautiful woman.. 💘

This was like watching home movies of family. Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Ron Howard, and Jim Neighbors, were people that came to our house every day for years. Ron helping Clint up into the trailer was precious. In listening to Clint Howard, I could hear shades of Ron in his voice, and at times, he sounded just like his brother, Ron.

Great insights from Clint and it’s clear that Rance Howard was an exceptional man who influenced the relationship between Opie and Andy and Andy Griffith appreciated his input. Still one of the best shows ever produced and there were so many valuable lessons on parenting that are needed today more than ever.

Ron and Clint turned out so well because of their parents. I read all of their childhood earnings were protected for them by their parents. As Paul Peterson of A Minor Consideration said … “kid performers should choose their parents well”!

I’m fascinated by 50’s and 60’s America and watch shows like Dick van dyke show, hogan’s Heroes, jack Beny, Phil Silvers Show, Bonanza, Dragnet, Honeymooners , green acres , petticoat Junction etc all the time! As matter of fact every night! Sometimes I would’ve loved to grow up in Mayberry( though not real)!

Thanks for such a great interview and wonderful behind-the-scenes footage of this iconic show. Always thought little Leon was too cute offering up his sandwiches in his cowboy hat. Really too bad that the 40-acres Backlot in Culver City where they filmed TAGS, Hogans Heroes, and many other of the sitcoms of the day was not preserved as a driving tour for posterity. How amazing it would be to be able to drive in front of Andy's home or the Courthouse today - that alone would be worth the price of admission!
