About time somebody tried to recreate this. It's ridiculous how underexposed your channel is. You've got pretty much all that is needed - competitive shooting, SAA fanning and spaghetti westerns.

Thanks! I have always loved this movie gunfight as so many people have.

And now for something completely different. I'm turning 70 soon and back in the 70's I did leather work, including making SA holsters, belts, saddles,etc. While watching your videos I hear the creaking of the leathers in your rig and it brings me back to my days as a young man. Such a beautiful sound to hear that sound of leather against leather; something one never hears today with all the plastic guns and kydex holsters. Well except for my 35 year old leather EDC rig and all steel 1911. Oh, and I do love your live action shooting too.

I'm really impressed, I'm a young teen that got into the western genre by chance and then rabbit holed down through 1800s American history and what I feel I always learned in the old stories was that fanning can't work. Quickdraw duels can work, Wild Bill did it. Dual wielding can work, Wyatt Earp supposedly did it (he was a bit of a liar so), long range accurate pistol shots can work, Harry Morse did it. But I can't recall a single story were fanning was attempted and worked perfectly. I was convinced it was impossible to do right, this is a rare time I'm so happy to be wrong.

Tuco is using a gun optimized for fanning -a race gun. And probably light loads. Don't get me wrong, it's still very impressive! Just saying, if you tried this with a "standard" .45 Colt and factory loads, it would not work (And you would risk injuring yourself and others!).

@@graydanerasmussen4071 Yes. If I were to use full power loads fanning would be difficult and fast accurate fanning would be impossible even with a race gun. Just having fun trying to blend a fantasy gunfight with some real shooting and trying to get in the speed range that was presented in the film. The loads I used here were over twice as powerful as Cowboy action loads but much less than a full power 45 Colt load.

@@TUCOtheratt My post was in no way meant to be disparaging! :) I live in Denmark, where you're just about allowed a stick to throw (if it's a small stick), But I have done a little shooting, enough to appreciate the level of skill behind your feat. My concern was that someone who learned to shoot on Netflix would try their hand at fanning a stock gun with full power loads! :)

Such a beautiful skill. I'm an infantryman so I'm used to an m4 and an m17. Held a revolver in my hand maybe 5 times in my entire life. But I could watch this all day..... my only problem is that watching this channel is gonna get me killed ...by my wife when I go buy a wheel gun tomorrow 😅

I don’t recall a Sergio Leone movie that was unrealistic in that way .

I know the Spaghetti Westerns were not very well acclaimed but I love them. I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched them. You did Clint proud!

Great job, actually much better than the man himself…never slowed the original down to look closely until now BUT upon further inspection Clint totally whiffed the second shot and the last shot was never remotely close to the guy furthest to the left…still an epic scene and Clint is the man!

Top job, well done: Many years ago, around 1970 I think, I read that Clint Eastwood could actually draw, shoot and hit a target in 1/4 second. No matter how hard I tried, I could only draw and put a round on a target at 10 feet/3 metres in 1/2 second. This was, however, with a Browning HP 9mm from an army holster. How you, and people like Jerry Miculek, do what you do with a gat is beyond me. I have nothing but admiration for your skill level.

Thanks for watching my video. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Actually 1/2 second draw with a semi auto is very fast. The world record with an SAA starting with hand on the gun is just under a 1/4 second I believe. Jerry Miculek fast draws are around 3/4 of a second with a semi auto.

Oh wow shooting good looks like you beat Clit Eastwoodys 🤠

My favourite black-powder channel. On another channel I heard it said the Pietta walnut grips don't fit properly compared to Uberti, but on both my Pietta Remington 1858s it would be impossible for them to fit better. I've found, though, that they aren't interchangeable from one pistol to another, so the grips from a 2002 don't fit properly on a 2024 Pietta. I think they altered the location peg position on the frame around 2015.

All these old movies and video games like red dead redemption got me into these things when I was younger now I finally got my first single action revolver and it looks like a really old one even though it's new then I found your channel and man I'm in love with this type of stuff I really dig you're hat to by the way and can you give me any recommendations or suggestions on what sport I could get into or just do something similar to you I really want to get good with these older firearms and be a part of this culture

Shooting as much as you, as fast as you, with what I imagine must be a really light mainspring, have you ever blown one up with a hang-fire? That dead hole scared me to death when you just kept fanning it, haha! Awesome shooting, I have almost no confidence I could do this with one of my double-actions! I don't do cowboy shooting, but it's always super intrigued me.

I used to do hip shooting like that out in the desert with a Colt .45 automatic pistol. I found it difficult to do that safely, but I did. I was not very fast but I was accurate and safe. I could hit the targets; my targets were the tall propane tanks. That is hard to do that safely and then get the speed up with live ammunition. The building at the back in there looks a lot like a saloon for monkeys. I do think you did an excellent job considering the use of live ammo and it's nerve-wracking!

So the real difficulty of this seems to be the transition between the second and third shot. Bigger gap to cover but you go to the right just fine, it's coming back left over that gap that's the issue cause shots 4 and 5 seem to be good. You got a laser bore sight? Put it in, lock the hammer back so you can go through the motion of fanning without moving the cylinder and just move through the transitions. I bet just a few times of that and youd have it sorted beyond any doubt. My little cartridge bore sight has helped me in so many ways. I really want to get one of the fancy trainer systems but we work with what we've got.

@@Abzocold I might have been a little harsh with you. I get about 2% that comment on this video something to the effect of "do it with full power ammo or it's meaningless" You didn't say that. So I'm, sorry for my over reaction. The truth is that full power 45 loads would make the gun kick so bad that only slow shooting would be possible and would be boring to watch so there would be no point in making a video that is so mediocre. The loads I shoot are 200 gr at about 725 fps. That's 2 and a half times more powerful than Cowboy Action minimums and 35% more powerful than Cisko's live ammo loads on TV.

I compete in USPSA Open Major division so I understand that the speed and accuracy you are showing in this video are remarkable even with zero recoil loads. Learning that your loads aren't mouse farts with ultra light projectiles is even more impressive. Since your loads are nearly 3/4 the power factor of the historical black powder load, I'll retract my request for a full load attempt as the difference isn't as much as I had thought.

That was extremely impressive. It's kind of impossible to tell by the footage whether you got the "center guy" twice or not. When you go back past him after shooting the far right target, "center guy" is still moving from being hit by the first shot. So take the win! Even "Joe" (Clint Eastwood's character) might've missed the center guy in the Baxters' front yard with that second shot at him. See what happens when you hurt a mule's feelings? Was there any particular way you practiced up for this attempt?

In some clips the gun looks like a 38 cal, in others 45. Not sure but I can tell it has extended leads meaning that it had some extensive custom machining that was done on it.

That's a great question. Some did what they could in that primitive world. The guns were crude by comparison with today's single action revolvers even when brand new. Mostly they just hoped they would fire when needed, misfires were common. Some like Dallas Studenmire did shorten barrels to speed up time getting out of the holster. I read that Wild Bill Hickok sometimes tied back his triggers on his revolvers to speed up slip thumb shooting with a gun in each hand. He was very deadly using that technique.

Cool video. You never said what Clint's time was in the original shootout. Obviously, they all died and he was the impeccable gun fighter, but it would allow us to see where your time was compared to the movie.

Great Question. It depends on how you look at it. The best I could tell from examining the film clip on a movie editor, Clint's time was depicted as about 1.70.1.80 from start of movement to last shot. The film was sped up a bit (15% or so) for effect (I cover that in a video) So the actual time was about 2 seconds which is still amazing to do with a mostly stock SAA. I also had reaction time to the start beep which is about .15 in my case. So I rounded the challenge to 2 seconds to react and shoot five times hitting with every bullet. Thanks!

You almost did it last yr and now you succeeded. Like i said last time...Eastwood was using blanks. He didn't hit anybody. You used live ammo and hit everybody. I reckon it took more takes for him to make it "look" like he hit every shot than it did you to really do it.😂

I asked in another video but I will ask in a different way. Is it your mind that you have to keep from racing or your hands. The reason why I ask is that in football. If I went to catch a ball in a crowd. I literally forgot everything else Except my hands and the ball. When being the catcher on a baseball team, I literally Set my glove And dumped everything out of my head until the ball hit my glove. It took me a while to discover I was doing this. I am wondering if you've experienced dumping everything out of your head, Doing the deed, And then starting your brain again. It's a funny experience
