Really prescient and timely show. Especially calling the Tea Party/ extreme right “the American Taliban”. I thought about that line a lot on January 6. They were able to do what Bin Laden and the Taliban failed to do and what the brave Americans on United 93 gave their lives to prevent. I’m watching the West Wing for the first time rn, and I think the Newsroom is even better.

I don't see it like: "It was a better time back then" I see it as: "Love when we used to be adventurous about stuff in life." He was (still is, but now it's different) serious actor back then, and went full in slapstick comedy with Jim Carrey and came out of it without being typecast. Dude took a risk andb it paid off. Back then it was more likely to do it and have the same results, but today it's more difficult.

Jeff Daniels has been at the top of my list for picking movies. "Good enough for Woodie..." Same thing for me: I see his name, I watch the movie. I can't believe he experienced it in such a overwhelmingly low key way while a dude across the pond (me) knows and loves his work and adores him for who he is and what he brings to the table: a raw reality, believable characters, depth and range which are jaw dropping. So glad he caught up with what most of us, I'm sure that means the rest of the world, already knew!! Dumb and Dumber was an eye opener for me to his range, so that was a golden bet of him. I can't remember when I recognized him for the first time from watching another movie, and from it knowing I struck acting gold. Always at the lookout for great actors able to take me along on a story line was and is almost literally like finding that one collectors item baseball card. With Jeff Daniels, ironically, it was the Lookout. Later when I heard of Newsroom, a combined effort of both him and Aaron Sorkin, it made me jump for joy. Two story tellers whose tone I love so much, working together. Anyway, don't know. Maybe there is a bunch of actors who favor character roles and opt out of the bigger budget summer box offices. But most movie buffs I know, fall deeply in love with the same range of actors for the same reason: acting chops. Another actor to illustrate my point: William H Macy. Just give me more of those and less CGI and I'm good.

Those who go on and on about how great MacLaine, Winger, and Nicholson were in Terms of Endearment should rewatch it so that they can include Jeff Daniels in that list. As in that movie, he has flown just slightly under the radar all these years because he is a master of acting without acting. It's odd that he's best known for Dumb and Dumber. But it probably paid the bills, allowed him to be choosy, and gave us all the great work he's done since then.

It was a pretty minor role for him probably but he was so great in that Steve Jobs biopic that starred Fassbender in the title role. Daniels got the really great role of John Sculley, the former Pepsi CEO who eventually tried to push Jobs out. He stole every single scene. I’m sure part of it was how great he’d gotten at Aaron Sorkin dialogue from years of doing The Newsroom, but man was he great.

You know, I always wonder why in the hell some people choose to “thumbs down” a particular KZread video….. “Why in the hell did 5 people ‘thumbs down’ this particular video?!?? I don’t know, but they’re probably right-winged, and they probably hate America AND Jeff Daniels, AND Stephen Colbert. They most likely saw the last interview segment, and they automatically ‘thumbs downed’ him on principle, without listening to what he had to say here.” Anyway, I’m not sure why people would even CONSIDER giving a thumbs down on this particular video. Maybe they didn’t like “Dumb and Dumber”, or maybe they just suck at life, and they’re jealous of Jeff Daniels’s success. I don’t know, but it is silly to me that ANYONE would give this particular interview a thumbs down….. maybe they hate black people, and they clicked on after the last segmented interview in order to thumbs down him without even watching it…. There are SOOO many haters coming from the right that they can’t even SEE the light of day from behind the conspiracy bullshit smoke screen from which they CHOOSE to view the entire world. It’s only 5 people, as of the morning of 9/14/2021, when I happened to click on this video, but dude….. it’s Jeff Daniels, and he’s talented AS FUCK, why in the hell would you want to thumbs down this PARTICULAR video?!?? I'll watch a movie, not knowing what it is or what it's about, just because he's in it.

Talking about systemic racism and then reliving Glory Days with Clint Eastwood is peak white. But I appreciate this man for educating himself! I really really loved hearing his hopefulness. I feel like a lot of folks he will reach could find the same solace and hope for a real post-racial society. These are people who can actually do something about it, and I'm so grateful that there are folks like him doing this work. Because I don't have it.

Hey Jeff…we have something in common; I arrived in NYC 1971, a few years in front of you, to begin my career; drove across the GW Bridge in my 1962 Buick Special. I was a newly released Vet of the the big V; was on my way to a law degree at Columbia. That old light blue Buick saw me through 3 years of law school; parking daily on alternate sides of the street. Left the Apple in 74 for a career out in the Wild West. Retired now; still remember that old Buick. Arrived without a dent, left with bruises on ever quarter panel of that faithful reliable old car. Memories….
