    The area between plane of least pelvic diameter and plane of outlet is referred to as obstetric outlet. According to me this has a no real obstetric significance: it is just an examination question.

    These videos are very helpful...thanks for your efforts...I have a silly doubt...there is rectum behind the vagina ...so ...one should feel the rectum posteriorly wen fingers are in vagina ......then how can one straight away feel the sacral promontory behind the rectum.....

    +super jb Excellant question. Yes. If rectum is loaded, it is difficult to palpate sacral promontory.To prevent rectum coming in the way during deep PV examination, it is essential that rectum must be empty.

    +super jb For assessing intertuberous diameter, the closed fist is pressed against the buttocks/perineum; it is not inserted into the vagina.

    I cannot tell you how many doctors I have proven wrong. They tell my clients that they have an inadequate pelvis and should not birth vaginally.... and they act shocked when my clients push their babies out. I feel like laughing in their faces but I respect birth too much.
