You should do a flip-flop edition, my favorite route-setter would surely appreciate it. Funny story - I once asked him if he buys his flip-flops just based on their climbing prowess(so he would look extra cool whenever casually flashing peoples projects in his flip-flops aye). And as he was trying to sound sarcastic and joke away that sure he does, I could see the sad truth in his eyes that I actually had him figured out!

Flip flops just seem like a worse version of barefoot? Like, when I'm in flip-flops and want to climb a tree, I'll 100% just leave the flip-flops on the ground. I don't think I've attempted to climb rocks/gym in flip-flops, but literally all I can imagine is that I'd pop them off XD

First time? That is my usual warm-up routine

One of the larger gyms in Osaka has a big barrel full of Crocs you can just grab and wear as slippers around the gym. It's actually quite common to see people warm up in them… or sometimes do problems that I wouldn't be able to touch even with the latest Solutions!

Why crocs are the best climbing shoe:

I used to work and set route in a climbing gym and always had my crocs in the gym for the time i didnt want to be in climbing shoes. They are definitly fun to climb with and not the worst performing shoe :D And you also get lots of irritated views if you just run a 6b up because its all upper body :D

This is essentially how i learned to climb. Don’t trust feet (unless they were huge holds) and use 100% upper body. Beware the plateau 😂

Good fun with a friend-that’s what it’s all about. Would like to see a vid on how old school climbers did it in boots and old school sneakers? Would give incite to how climbing industry shoes have helped us get better, but still reliant on training & technique.

i got these $2 knockoff croc-foam slippers from Daiso that are great as camp shoes... they weigh like nothing so it’s not annoying to bring, and i can wear them over my climbing shoes to save some rubber while shuffling around.
