Climbing ice in Signaldalen Soppingfossen under Northern lights

Soppingfossen is located on the north east side and about 14 km into #Signaldalen. The creek is called Kortelva. A first steeper ice step is followed by a canyon with partly open water spots in our case. Afterwards there are different variations of different steepness, from probably WI3+ to WI5. Descend either through the forrest on climbers left or rapelling the waterfall. During our climb was quite a strong solar storm which created beautiful #northernlights. They can be seen at the end of the video.

I was wondering why you started so late. It took a second to realize that daylight just doesn't exist that far north this time of year. Rad climbing.

Yep no matter when you start, you’ll always need to use the torch at some point 😄
Simon I am up in this area in a few weeks , is the climb easy to access from the road ?

Hei, yes it is. You can already see it from the road and it's just to find the easiest way along the creek. Which was in our case the climbers left side. To reach the main fall, you should climb the left side in the beginning, seen at 2:44. Then you can follow the canyon. Be careful with open spots in the creek.

And beware of extreme avalanche risk climbing later in the season!
