    Another great video Jez, thank you. When building a belay, i always ask myself, would I let my kids hang of this? It often lends me to add a placement if possible & practical.

    Another lovely video…I’m always entertained/amused by the repeated rhetorical questions with each issue: “but we know that don’t we?” Or “haven’t we?” - love your videos and appreciate the tips - thumbs up for braving the elements 🌧

    To me, the main benefit of 2 pt belay would be that I need 4 pieces instead of 6 for 2 belays. So I can either have more pieces for the climb or bring less stuff. I still do 3 pt belays, but thinking about what I would consider an acceptable 2 pt belay. For my part, a 4 and 5 would make me. That's probably something to check with climbing partner too.

    Great video JB! Keep them coming💪🏻. perhaps you should loose 10 points on that belay for building it in the rain! Haha! I never thought of following you on Instagram, I definitely will, thank you.

    man i wish we had cracks that even where I climb. I always carry a set a nuts with me, and almost never use them. Manage to get tricams in all the time though. I know you don't use them much, but i wouldn't mind seeing a vid where you explain your ideal tricam placement. Well that's if you even have any lol, I wouldn't be surprised if you never use them.

    you have not mentioned direction of pull. In a multipitch it is nice to have one piece directing in case the belayer will throw up

    Thanks Jez. Really enjoyed this one. Having the go pro to really inspect those placements was a really good idea. I imagine that was a pain to edit though. Respect for going out in that weather. Quick question, the way you did the larks foot does that make the anchors independent or not. It doesn't seem so to me, but I'm happy to be told I'm wrong...

    I believe people have tested that it does make them independent. After weighting, the girth hitch tightens and does not allow individual strands to pass through.

    yep the go-pro looked OK - you didn't look like a weeble due to the fish-eye lensing

    With single point anchors like a big boulder. What do you use? I've been using 2 slings or sometimes I use the rope.

    If you can spare the rope, then walk around the boulder & tie the rope off back to your harness - easier than stringing slings together.

    If you score each placement out of 5, how many “points” should a belay anchor have in aggregate?

    I've heard him in another video say a combined score of around 10, but every situation is different. Wouldn't be too nice with eight 1s and one 2

    When you use a larks foot are the strands independent?

    yes

    A figure 8 gives you a master point and a shelf, but the larks foot is quick, and uses less of the sling, which sometimes you don't have much spare.

    Could anyone help me answer this question about trad. How do you retrieve your equipment from the rock after you've climbed up it or does your partner climb up on top rope? And also if you did do that how would you get down? (I'm talking about routes with absolutely 0 protection) Cheers :)

  • @milkymat

    @milkymat

    The second essentially top ropes and cleans the route on the way up, to get down its either a walk round the easy way, or abseiling from some bolted anchor (if the there's one around) or you have to Leave a bit of kit behind to abseil off of that. I think a lot of people will sacrifice a sling or more commonly some cordelette

  • @chrismorris9396
    @chrismorris93962 жыл бұрын

    Would you need a longer sling or cordelette to decrease the angle when you showed the anchor using 2 points as the angle was above 90 degrees?

  • @JBMountainSkills

    @JBMountainSkills

    The angle was well under 90. Can be hard to see with the camera angle sometimes.
