Climbing Agag's Groove | Classic Rock Climbing

A Classic Rock Climb - Climbing Agag's Groove
A trip to one of the best know climbs in Scotland on a cold April day. This route in Glencoe is a classic Rock Climbing route and features in the book - Classic Rock by Ken Wilson. The weather leading up to this day had seen March temperatures reaching 20 degrees , however as April rolled in the temperature dropped and the rock was rather cold for our climb in Glencoe.... Gerry led the whole route and pulled me up! :)

Another great video Murray, I must admit Glen Coe and The Black Cuillins were my favourite destinations, my leader Ewen always used to shout down at me telling there is a path like a motorway at the top, I always believed him 😯

Another note of thanks for bringing back memories of an absolutely fantastic day on Agag's Groove. I left the other half on Curved Ridge with an old video camera, the film made it to VHS and was sadly overwritten. Being a beautiful warm day when we did it our problem was the queues of climbers and the time it took. My lasting memory is of sitting alone on a belay waiting on those ahead clearing and drinking in the scenery. A classic indeed! Fantastic.

So glad that you managed to get this footage up again Murray. This is the video that got me hooked on steaming boots films. I had a grand idea that I was going to organise a mountain guide to lead me up Agags . The old film gave me the confidence that I would manage it. I thoroughly enjoyed being brought up as a second. It still is the best day I've had in Scotland's mountains. We continued all the way up to the summit and walked down the hillwalkers way. Classic route Cheers

One time on Curved Ridge looking across to a pair on Agags Groove, the second was having a bit of a moment and asked his lead for advice on how to proceed. The response from above... Use the force! It made the day. I have since adopted this bit of 'helpful' advice on many climbs since. It never fails to get a laugh.

Enjoyed that Murray, made me think of my younger days in Norway, were I would be weekended in Oslo. The company where I was loading from (HGV driver) often offered me a trip along the Fjords in a Kayak/ with camping (I even though I can't swim and still can't, (reside on a narrowboat now) they said I had all the ability of a bolder in water!) I was well out my comfort zone, but hey ho I gave it a try on several occasions just glad I did. later in life as a railway signal engineer I would happily go up a 30/40' post only held in by a concert filled 45 gallon drum but still get nervous at looking at the same height drop on a walk

Of all the places to come across a "tom tit" ha ha! Brilliant Murray! Great film again, I've climbed the Curved Ridge twice and hope to get up it again this year and while doing so i always sit and watch climbers heading up the Rannoch Wall. Think i will continue to watch from afar as it takes a bit of concentration i would say :) Thanks for uploading and stay safe, peter.

Great stuff Murray - Classic Rock was our Bible in the 1980's and 1990's - Agags is certainly a great route and it was good to see your day on it. Cold hands are never good on the rock and that jobbie can't have helped. Never fancied Clachaig Gully or the Chasm in the Coe. Have you done them? Thanks again for keeping the videos coming !!!

This was always high on my list but I never got around to it. I did, however, have a great day on North Buttress and, to my eternal shame, was winched off D Gully Buttress after thinking I was on Curved Ridge (it's a long story). It was a long time ago! Classic Rock was my bible. Well, one of many bibles including Murray"s 'Undiscovered Scotland'. Sadly, photography started to get in the way of climbing and I got out of the habit. Perhaps one day I'll start again, especially as I live in the best rock climbing area on mainland Britain. Our Craig yr Ogof on Craig Cwm Silyn is very similar to Rannoch Wall. Contentious? Come and have a look for yourself :)

The first time I went to do Curved Ridge we ended up going up D Gully Buttress and by the time we got to the top we thought this scrambling malarcky was a bit tough - wasn't until a solo climber caught up with us and informed us we hadn't actually done curved ridge did we realise our mistake!! Nice video and looks like a nice fairly moderate route. I’m visiting Scotland in a about a week and a half on a tour but I’m going to take a day to try to climb on 8 September. Can anyone recommend a good guide for some climbing near Fort William similar to these routes. I’m a fairly experienced climber but just learning to lead Trad. Would like to find someone to guide myself and another climber in the 4A to 4C range.
