Vincent Van Gogh wasn't famous before he died. He was struggling with poverty trying to sell his paintings, the man cut his own ear off when he was mentally ill and he died before even knowing that people started to appreciate his artworks. It doesn’t have anything to do with hate for art. What they are saying is people love and care more for paintings or material things more than the planet or the life on it. It makes sense really. People are going to just call them activist no or say they did it just for the attention. But the activist are right. They threw soup directly on it. It has glass and things to protect it, the earth does not,and people will only care about the safety of the painting instead. A WRONG WAY TO GET ATTENTION. Yet an EFFECTIVE METHOD.
These idiots are Anna Holland and Phoebe Plummer. They were arrested for criminal damage and aggravated trespass. The painting itself was unharmed due to a protective layer of glass, although there was some minor damage to the frame.

@@doomplague5758 Because cleaning up trash on the street is going to encourage people to change what they're doing and act in a way that's considerate of the planet? No, that's not activism. The purpose of activism is to disrupt society, permeate people's safety bubbles and get them to question things they wouldn't otherwise with the goal of inspiring change. Do you understand what activism is? Martin Luther King used to block bridges so people couldn't drive through. He was the most hated man in America at that point, everyone said what you're saying, they just wanted the civil rights protestors to go away and not disturb them. But those were racist people, and that activism is what got African Americans the change they needed. Think about it.
The painting, enclosed by glass, was completely unharmed; the National Gallery later confirmed that only the frame had been slightly damaged but it still pissed me off at the time.

Who is Van Gosh? I know that Van Gogh was an artist who died penniless, and anything but famous. He shot himself just over 133 years ago. Seeing someone throw tomato at one of his paintings is crazy. I would guess that the paining would not be an original and replaceable anyway. People that enjoy art are can also be passionate about the environment. Art is beauty, and beauty is art. I don't know if they realize this, but art IS life. Even when there was cavemen, they painted literal art that showed life from animals to people and land. Expressing your feelings IS life. @@jorgegarciarobles6019Tbh Art was a huuuuge investment back then especially ESPECIALLY if you planned on making a career out of it. If you wanted to paint and earn money you had to invest your own life into it. It’s why these paintings are so valuable. They were created during a time when art was for the few fortunate or rich enough to get into it.
