    The cuckoo is a crazy bird and she wabbles when she flies. Nicely done. Appalachia is here to stay.

    I've never had nor could I ever afford an expensive banjo. The Tonk Bros 38 lug "Sterling" I'm getting from Germany cost me $225 on Ebay and i think it's beautiful. Can't wait to get my hands on it !

    +Thomas Davidson Many of the best musicians play on "junk" instruments. Never heard of Tonk Brothers, sounds good. I spent $200 on an 1888 Luscomb banjo when I was a kid. No banjo should ever cost more than $800 tops. After that you're paying for something else besides a banjo.

    hey Clifton, id like to add my thoughts on new banjos and ask a question or two. i seen alot of pretty beautiful sounding banjos at Oldtown School in Chicago. Still love my Savanna banjo got for 80 bucks, but ive heard musicians suggest getting a quality instrument to help further ability, which i believe in. Many banjos price go past a months rent. My junker has got my through 4 years now and im headed to alot of banjo workshops this summer. ill be relying 100% on my ear this summer because i wont be able to tune to much if any alternate tunings, perhaps relatively but maybe not even that. do you very important to be in same or relative tuning when learning a song in order to achieve the left hand technique ? I could use a new set up, although i think the most important part of a banjo is a strong index/middle finger nail. thoughts? ps- what are you doing this summer musically? do you remember your tuning for this Cukoo recording?

    We are watching great musical talent. The problem I have with this is this.why are we watching stuff that's from 7 and 5 years ago? Where did this young man slip off to. Would love to see some new and improved and some goodness come from this young man. This is a trying year 2020. We can use some great inspiration. And this young man can do it...... The question is this where did he go???🤔

    @@bigpun8601 now that is awesome..... It kind of reminds me of a young man I do believe he's up in Canada I'm not sure. But his name is Jesse Stewart. He does mandolins and I do believe he makes his own mandolins designs and then builds them too. He has a very big plethora of music. Every song is better than the first I've ever heard. I love all his music but one tune stands out the best. That would be called cold beer. Check them out when you got some time you'll see what I'm saying.If you put them two together in the same room oh my God that would be a perfect album.... Maybe there is a way to hook them to up to play together 🤔👍👀 that would be something worth looking into.....👀👍

    Clifton, this is an outstanding performance. I have a question for you... I just bought a late 60s Harmony (#1851 I believe) and was wanting to get nylgut strings. I've never used nylgut strings. Is there a brand or pack you'd recommend that would be available on something like Amazon?

    Hi Clifton, nice picking! I've been trying to learn this song for a while, but I can't get the strum to sound right. Is it just a fan strum, or are you employing any other rhythmic technique?

  • @CliftonHicksbanjo

    @CliftonHicksbanjo

    9 жыл бұрын

    jlkj I am not familiar with "fan strumming." I am just playing the banjo fairly straight-forward here. The unusual strumming you are perhaps referring to is merely brushing back and forth with all the fingers of the right hand whilst letting the left hand tackle the more complex plucking--as sort of an interlud between verses. Thanks for watchin.
