Those 4 years with Metallica were enough to put him in the top 10 metal bassists of all time, just imagine if his tragic death didn't happen, so sad to see such a talent who was living his life to the fullest and loving what he did. Did not deserve what happened to him.

@@runtwer5700 yeah it's incredibly unfortunate, they didn't even go out the typical way that Rockstars go out with dumb shit like overdoses. They both went out in crashes that were completely out of their control, another that comes to mind is Dimebag. It just makes me so sad seeing guys living their lives to the fullest and achieving and reaching new heights in music only for it to just be ripped away from them unfairly. Can't imagine what Metallica and metal music would have been like today if Cliff wasn't robbed of his life due to bus driver negligence.

Kind of crazy to think about how AJFA would have turned out with Cliff input. Cliff brought some of more progressive elements in things like Call of Cthulhu, From Whom the bell tolls, Orion, and MOP definitely had. Still Dave brought a lot of song writing to Metallica (Phantom Lord, Hit the Lights, Four horsemen, and fight fire with fire). By the time MoP was around, Dave song writing influence was mostly gone.

Cliff was the G.O.A.T. We have 3 years of recorded evidence that people are still talking about 35 years after his death. He taught the band about harmonies and melodies structure that, to this day, still helps Metallica be the powerhouse band they are. No other bass player showed the innovation, flow, creativity or plain old badass-ery that Cliff did by the age of 24(his age when he died), much less by 21 (his age when Kill 'Em All as recorded.) His influence on his contemporaries and future players cannot be overstated. It would be impossible to count their numbers. They easiest way to say it would be "All of them". On top of that, everybody who met Cliff testifies to how personable, down to earth, and cool he was. His influence on Metallica is still seen today. He was The Greastest Of All Time.

I remember ALL of we-us Metal-ers always said that Cliff Burton was to Bass the exact same as Jimmy Hendrix was to Lead Guitar. The first Metal bassist Geezer Butler started it all and set the bar very high. Cliff is a true apostle of that heavy jazz groove who took it to new speeds.

both on the album and at that show this song feeds right into Whiplash, it's fucking amazing. RIP Cliff, Jason did a magnificent job in his absence though and one of the best performances of Whiplash was in 1989 in Seattle with Jason. This show and the studio with Cliff is just as godly, though. Fucking legendary, all of them. From when the band had Cliff and Dave to Jason to modern Metallica even now when they have a crab as a bassist, fucking legendary

When Metallica was looking for a bass player, they got word about Cliff. They went to a show he was playing, and they saw him, on the stage, hunched over, head bobbing, hair bouncing around and they were blown away. Also funny side note, When Metallica started playing shows, there was a group of die hard fans, with the word Metallica stitched one the back of their jackets in big letters. They would go to shows Metallica was playing, and stand in the crowd with their back to the bands playing until Metallica came on. They're one of the bands that definitely changed the music scene.
