I was in the Army and i was stationed in Germany when this game was played. I was on a field maneuver so i couldn't watch the game on TV, but i heard the game on Armed Forces Radio. When that last out was made i remember going outside my tent and started crying. I just couldn't believe the Indians FINALLY made it to a World Series!! Never thought i would live to see it happen!! That '95 Indians team was just a fun team to follow all that season!!

I grew up a huge football and basketball fan , of course I played little league baseball was never a big baseball guy but the September and October of ‘95 by Griffey jr and these mariners made me a die hard baseball fan.

Granted I was only 5 years old in 95, I remember the 90s Indians so well. I really remember 97 and it still hurts. 2016 hurts very bad also.

those indians teams were really good. and to not be a world series champ from those teams is puzzling. they prob had the better teams but they dont always win

A great memory right here with Kenny Lofton stealing home and it ends up being the winning run.

Oh man as an Indians bandwagon fan in 1995 I remember this game quite well, especially at 2:05:30 when Kenny Lofton scores from second on a passed ball! That's some heads-up baserunning!

Tremendous! One of my favorite plays ever. Also, how fast did he bust his butt down to first on that bunt earlier in the inning 2:03:35? Just sublime baseball.

I noticed that Bob Costas that the end of the telecast, doesn't specify which games NBC would cover in the 1995 World Series. Remember that 1995 was the year that ABC and NBC had to split responsibilities at covering the World Series. ABC with Al Michaels, Jim Palmer, and Tim McCarver did Games 1, 4-5, and 7 had it been necessary. Al Michaels wrote in his 2014 autobiography that the announcers were forbidden from acknowledging the other networks' broadcasts of the World Series. In other words, he was only allowed to promote ABC's portion of the series. That's how fierce and petty the competition between the two networks were.

Which is weird because when ABC last broadcast a World Series Game before this was 1989 and Al Michaels not only thanked his ABC employees but also all of the NBC MLB broadcasters as that network also lost MLB that year to CBS. Michaels made it a point to thank Bob, Joe, Vin, and even the NBC directors like the great Harry Coyle. Thought that was pure class on Al’s part basically dedicating a full minute giving NBC it’s props. Unlike most I didn’t hate CBS’s coverage in that I like Jack Buck and even McCarver when paired together. CBS’s biggest issue was they basically killed a TV staple in Game of the Week on Saturdays to the point they’d sometimes go a whole month between broadcasts. Their graphics and music were top notch and even corny Pat O’Brien was fun to listen to. Their issue was lack of coverage outside of the ASG, the LCS, and the WS and the fact they would put This Week in Baseball on at the buttcrack of dawn here on the West Coast. Who wants to get up at 5AM to watch a half an hour show that ends 5 full hours before a game? FOX actually put TWIB back on Saturdays at noon for a 1PDT first pitch followed by their own pregame. Hate FOX and loathed Joey Buck but at least the got it right when it came to showing TWIB..

This was the closest that I believe, Ken Griffey Jr. got to reaching the World Series. I don't know if he can be considered the absolute greatest baseball player to never play in the World Series, but he definitely has to be right up there. He was still with the Mariners the next time that they made it to the playoffs, 1997 (which was incidentally, also the year that he won the AL MVP Award), but they wound up losing to Baltimore in four games. And when the Mariners finally made it back to the ALCS in 2000, Griffey was now in Cincinnati.

It would have been nice if Griffey showed up for this series... 2 for 15... But because he's so talented, he gets a pass

@@baseline-G He didn't necessarily get a pass. That kind of thing happens fairly often with great players whose bat falls silent during the course of a playoff series. You don't exactly throw them under the bus for it neither. On balance the good far outweighed the bad during his career as a Mariner. Yeah it would've been nice if he'd have blown it up in that series but hey, shit happens in baseball sometimes. Gotta credit Cleveland's pitching staff too. They shut a lot of the M's hitters down who were ripping it in the previous series.

such a crime how Griffey never got a World Series ring like his dad, he definitely coulda spanked four homers in one game.

I really wonder if the ALCS MVP award still has that design in 1996, I know it would be changed later on that decade. It was too bad as well since I feel it was the best design for the postseason MVP awards. The WS MVP would still keep that design until 2001.

Wouldn't really go that far. Hit .242 (8 for 40) against Johnson with a .678 OPS, 0 HR and 2 rbi. I guess that's pretty decent as far as left handed hitters go since Johnson was absolutely lethal against lefties but that's not saying a whole lot based on that standard. Yeah, I can agree he did better than most but getting the best of him? Nah.

Once upon a time, playoff home field advantage was not determined by won-loss record, but a system of rotating locations. This was one of those times.
