@@jbb8382 No. The Indians pitching was simply exhausted. Remember they lost Cookie Carrasco in the last week of the season, when he was hit in the pinkie by a shot up the middle. Then Trevor Bauer gets that stupid drone injury to his hand. The pitching of Corey Kluber and Andrew Miller powered them through the playoffs, but they just had nothing left for the seventh game of the World Series.

I feel like I was "at" this game, though I was not in the ballpark. I had just moved to Cleveland a few weeks earlier and was in Lincoln Park Pub in Tremont with some friends on Taco Tuesday, watching this on TV. I think we stepped outside on the Sexson home run to see if we could see the HR fireworks from the park. We couldn't (we were too late), but it was fun trying. It was an early bonding experience for me and my new roommates, and watching this brought back a lot of good memories. ...And in the playoffs, we WERE able to see fireworks on a Jim Thome homer in the playoffs against Boston from our place in Ohio City. Or maybe we just heard them? Either way, this Indians team will always be one of my favorites. The Indians/Guardians aren't my actual team, but I've always had a great deal of fondness for them because of my time in Cleveland, and because of this '99 team.

Oh yeah good times for sure!Especially when the Dolans didn’t own the Cleveland Indians. I believe this was the last year Dick Jacob’s owned the Tribe. Between 1995-2001, I probably went to 25 -30 games. They only lost 4-5 times. Those teams were unbelievable especially the 95’ team. More like their scorebook. Even using the bigger team style book, you only have so many spaces for each batting spot. Baines had bad knees and was timed with a sundial by that point in his career. Justice was slowing down too. Hargrove wasn't beyond putting a pitcher in the outfield in a pinch and using an infielder like Carlos actually saved him from putting another pitcher in a OF spot. Nagy was more of an athlete so putting him out there wasn't so much of a defensive liability. Losing Junior really hurt them more than anything that game but his backup ATM wasn't too bad.

Geez. I forgot about Harold Baines with Cleveland in '99. Got him from Baltimore where he was hitting .322 in 107 gmes with 81 RBI. He then put up Keith Hernandez numbers: 1 HR 22 RBI. In fairness just 28 games. Anyways, I was surprised (like many?) Baines made the Hall of Fame. I always thought he was no better than Chil Davis, but, Baines hit 34 more HRs, than Davis' 350 and had close to 500 more hits (2866 to 2380) in three more MLB seasons. Baines AVG higher than I thought, too: .289. Davis career was .274. Davis managed to score over 1240 runs by drawing more walks than Baines. Davis managed the higher career OBP .360. to .356. Baines still had more runs scored at 1299. So, Anyways, great 1999 comeback. I haven't watched all of it yet. Percival was a stud closer for a few years for California but struggled against Cleveland a couple times!

Completely forgot Harold Baines had a cup of coffee with the Indians in 99. Yadi's older brother behind the plate for the Angels too.

I love baseball. It's late August and the season is grinding on. Only in this sport can the unlikely and absurd happen. The fans were practically asleep a few innings earlier and now they're noisy. Now with each hit it appears inevitable that this once lopsided win is going to slip away from the Angels. Great stuff!
Man the Angels uniforms for this era were BRUTAL lol
Cool that you kept the Oldsmobile ad in there! 😊
Justice was a sweet looking ball player. Beautiful SWING!
Never forget this game lol! Justice with the perfect helmet throw.

This is why Percival was so angry after and kept trying to fight on the field and had to be held back. The helmet hit him on the top of his head, it definitely hurt a lot

Mariners fan here. Whenever I see comments about 'the game is over', I refer to that '01 game. "Are you sure?". Had the M's held on, they'd have had solitary claim to most wins in an MLB season (assuming the rest of the season ended exactly as it did). I'd rather they'd won a ring but they got neither. 23 years later....
Wanted to see the 3rd out in that inning!!! Unbelievable watching that game as angels fan
That 1999 INDIANS team was loaded with power with SEXON,RAMIREZ, THOME, BAINES, SANDY ALOMAR, BAERGA...

The good old days!
That double dive on the lead off hit looked straight out of a video game.
I remember watching this game!!

Should've had Ricky Willie Jake and Pedro....
I honestly side with Justice here. Just because the Indians dismantled their bullpen doesn't mean they can break his ribs and make him miss a game or something stupid. Taking a 100 mph rock directly to the ribs is no joke, and the intentional HBP provides absolutely nothing to the game.
This is why i love baseball with a passion. Come from behind wins, brawls, lol give me baseball all day everyday 😂😄

Call the field what you want. Call the team what you want. Cleveland will always be Cleveland ❤
Thank you for ads and all!
I think you need to include the final at-bat of the inning.
Holy shit. That strike zone was fucking YUUUUGE.
Ha! Terry Collins, blowing late leads like usual. Royals fan here, that STILL CAN'T BELIEVE Collins let Matt Harvey go out for tp9th when Mets had a 2-0 lead on Royals in a crucial Gm5 in 2015 World Series. Terry Collins had THE BEST closer in the National League warmed up. Collins allow Mets fans & Matt Harvey to "make up Collin's mind" sending Harvery back out to finish the Gm with +100pc.
I can't believe how ugly those old Angels uniforms were 😅
I saw this game live as it happened. I remember Rex Hudler sounded like he was going to cry.
I just turned 17 when this happened, remember it like it was yesterday
I love this team
I have watched the mighty and powerful Colorado Rockies and I have never seen them score 12 in a game in my 25 years in Denver and I have season ticket.
The pitcher was like "If you won't take me out, I'll take myself out."
People who say "women are too emotional" never seem to be around the countless videos of pitchers assaulting batters with baseballs because their poor little feelings were hurt.
Collin’s arguing after a clear intentional hbp is a joke
THis game had it all...
SB nation should definitely do a reweinder on this game

Looks like someone gave JOBU his rum that day
And games like this is exactly what I point to when stupid "unwritten rules" crap comes up about the team ahead trying too hard when they're up late a lot of runs. Anything can happen. There's no clock in baseball (well, excepting the pitch clock. You know what I mean.)
