Clearing the Oats || Feral Pig, Cat & Fox Shooting with my 308Win Rifle & Thermion 2 LRF XG50
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
This shooting trip I'm solo and hunting invasive feral pigs, foxes and feral cats. There's plenty of bulk action packed footage in this video in both daylight and after the sun sets with the thermal gear.
It was great to be out riding around on my Suzuki King Quad AXI 500 which definitely opens areas up, otherwise inaccessible to a regular 4x4. The weather conditions deteriorated throughout the evening which made time in the paddocks not so pleasant in the end.
I'm not shooting for human consumption on this trip, it is purely pest control of invasive species in Australia. These uncontrolled animals are an environmental and agricultural menace, often carrying bacterial and diseases like brucellosis. Pigs are left where they lay as carrion, nothing generally lasts more than a week in the Aussie bush before it's just a few scattered remains.
I am a vertebrate pest control - contract shooter in NSW. For those wondering about the suppressors, both my mate and I hold the necessary permits in NSW to do so. If seeking information regarding that, please check the FAR webpage for details. All shooting is performed on privately owned farms, with exclusive permission granted in writing for paid services.
Call to action - If you would like to see the continuation of KZread channels like mine or others. PLEASE consider joining Patreon for further support.

My 308Win rifle is a full custom, which I will review soon to share all the details properly. Action is a Defiance Machine Tenacity, Triggertech Special trigger, 18 inch Carbon Six Barrel, Wedgetail Industries Suppressor, all in an MDT HTN26 Carbon Fibre Chassis. I'm running reloaded ammunition with 150 grain Hornady SST projectiles and a sprinkling of subsonic rounds, which are reloads using 190 Sub-X projectiles. My thermal scope is a Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG50 and for the scanner I'm running a brand new Pulsar Merger LRF XL50 which is 1024x756 resolution !!! Daylight scope, I'm using a PARD D35/50 RF.
If you are interested in a thermal or night vision device in Australia, have a chat with Ben from Hunt the Night.

Superb shooting Nathan. The farmer appears to have let his pig problem get a little out of hand. Those sub-sonics are really good - sounds like the spring of an air-rifle and then the pig takes a dirt nap.

The farmer is shooting as many as he can, it's a hard gig farming and then trying to shoot at night. This is a much broader problem than the one property I was accessing unfortunately.

the numbers of pigs are just incredible. I was listening to the NSW country hour there saying it's some of the largest numbers of feral animals they have seen in years pigs ,deer ,horses ,cats, wild dogs

It's truly out of control, and there's only a handful of guys licensed to come out and exterminate them, Nathan's beyond lucky to have his permits and I'm sure he's swamped with work because getting approved for this line of work is incredibly hard in Aussie.

👍🏻👍🏻 man you really make me appreciate that semi auto liberty we got here. I see a lot you pop one and it’s friend won’t move until you start fidgeting around with that bolt and off they go. I usually only ever like to pop one with a bolt gun myself but if I’m on a property and they don’t want any of them. They just want em all gone or run off etc. I use either a 7.62x39 16” ar from at least preferably 150-200. Or if it’s a smaller area and we can get a stalk on first till 100 I’ll use a .300 blk ar. And with the tuned subs I can usually get 2-3 before they scatter. Good video cheers as you guys say 👍🏻👍🏻

Nathan on one occasion I was visiting on a place up the Tibooburra road where they had shot several thousand sheep due to lack of feed during a drought and the carcasses had been deposited in a trench but not yet buried. A companion and I set the Station Roo rig up on the trench and whistled for about an hour during which time we shot just over seventy foxes with my little .22 rimfire Magnum without moving the vehicle!

Great work mate. I hate cats too and I don’t care if they are wearing a collar and bell if people love there pets look after them and keep them at home. I remember back in the 70’s I was getting 7 bucks a skin for cats and averaged 25 for foxes. As an apprentice welder I was getting 60 bucks a week. The old Bruno fox got a work out and we didn’t have the feral problem we have now. Made more money shooting than as a welder.

What an amazing and productive night! I can’t help but feel for the native Aussie wildlife. Amazing shooting, but it was disheartening to see them just keep coming. I wish there was a government bounty like the misplaced predator bounties of the past but only for invasives. I wonder if that would motivate more people to become active in saving the native wildlife.

They will often stay within cover and concealment during daylight. But at night feel safer under the cover of darkness and they venture out into the open much more.

Very true, they are not out there with innocence at all.
I can see what might confuse some people about the cats. The appearance of your feral cats is far better than those where I live in North America, where misguided people feed them in dense colonies ridden with sarcoptic mange and other diseases. People like to imagine that these cats could be rehabilitated to become somebody's pet. But there's too many cats in the world to pull that off. Every person who offers kittens on social media is adding to the problem. Go get mad at those people. Conservationists have it right if anyone wants a cat's life to ever be worth something again. Maybe that H5N1 flu in the cats in Poland will be what sets everybody's priorities straight, but why let it come to that?!
