Why did you do the white spray? Why not just do a couple coats of the clear?

To those who wonder how it works. The black background she added to the picture is there to hide the white spray paint layer which just adds the non transparent effect to the picture and because of she printed the picture out mirrored the front of the print has to be attached to the surface instead of sliding it with the back on.

Thank you very much for this! I painted my guitar’s headstock black and wanted to put a new label on it. Using this method I was able to do this and it looks awesome!

I think it's because the black box filled in the clear space, and the white spray paint went behind the colors, basically making the color images on a "white" waterslide. Because of the black box, the white spray paint didn't show where it wasn't wanted. That's what I figured in my head anyway lol, so I typed it out here so it would make sense to me lol

Hello there! Thanks for all of your videos! They are so helpful. My question is have you figured out how to partially make an image non-transparent on your water slide? If I have a background that I want to be transparent but then have a focal point in the center of that that I would like to be solid how would you suggest going about doing that? Thanks for your help!

Thank you !! On a white tumbler you could just use a plain clear water slide and just seal it with clear spray. No colored box needed behind the image

Hi there! Ok, I have two questions. Did you "mirror" the image for this? I am trying to understand how the white made the images show up without seeing the actual white paint. I am going to use this method on words to put on a dark tumbler. Also, if I am using a sealer and I want to epoxy over it after, is that ok to do without the waterslide outline showing through. Thank you!

worked like a charm!! Just don't forget to mirror the text. it needs to be flipped horizontally so it shows up the right way! I was struggleing to put a decal on a guitar headstock I was redoing. I painted it black and the decal didn't show up until I did this, ☺

That is pretty cool. Question: with this technique does the difference of the black ink printed on the waterslide verses the black of the cup show an edge of the decal where you cut?

Thanks !! I just found some music note clip arts and changed all their colors in cricut design space. Then bunched them together how I wanted and flattened them

You’re welcome !! When you cut the image out with scissors make sure u cut the edges rounded , it helps not make it look so harsh on the cup. U could also take a cotton ball with some black (or whatever color the cup is) paint and blot around the edges to help blend

@@cynthiaelizondo2384 I know this is old old, but I think if you spray painted the back of the image with your paint first, instead of printing the box, then putting white on top, it would blend better because I had the same problem, my ink and spray paint were 2 different shades of black

Great video. I've watched it before but I have a question...I still don't understand how you would do letters on a waterslide and have them show up on a dark cup. Especially if you are just using a quote with black letters. Maybe I'm missing something. Please help if you can. Thanks for the great videos. I've learned a lot!

Love it!! All of your videos. Question- I am so stuck. I glittered and epoxy 10 cups, ready to put my water slide on. I just had to fine sand them to get the bumps from chunky glitter still a little bumpy …. BUT if I put water slide on the sanded area the color will be dull. (I made that mistake once. Putting waterslide on sanded tumbler..) Is there anything I can do besides epoxying all these cups again after fine sanding before applying my water slide??? Any help I would appreciate. Thank you!

The white paint basically just turns it into a white water slide so it’ll show up against a dark cup

Thanks for showing this... but where did the white go? I can’t wrap my head about the white spray paint and how you applied it backwards?

Love the video!!! Really love the video! However, I must be doing something wrong because when I get to part of apply the decal to the tumbler. The decal is still white, the backing comes off and not staying on the cup. Please help 🙏! What I'm I doing wrong? I'm using Printers Jack waterslide from Amazon.

You need to mirror the image and put the white painted side down...you'll have the back of the water decal to remove directly on top when you place it on your cup. You're going to apply the decal flipped from how you typically apply it, I'm guessing. :)

You said 'I wasted a whole sheet almost' is there a way to use the sheets after we've used half? Just put in the printer as a half? Thank you for your videos!

Why do you use the white paint? Also, I read somewhere about sanding the edges of a water slide image. What would be the reason for doing so?

Wow! So glad I saw this! Thank you! Do you think you can use spray paint instead of changing the background in design space? Reds are hard to match. Or is the idea not really to match but just to be able to put on a dark cup?

I finally tried this doing exactly as you did, but when I put it on my tumbler, it looked like I did it on gray waterslide (I'm assuming the black background with the white paint made it look this way). I want to try again, but instead of using white paint, what if I used black, do you think it will work better?

I know this is old, but you need white behind it for it to show up. Try keeping it clear instead of printing the black box. Then spraying clear, spraying the paint you used on your cup, white, then clear again to seal.

I made a coffee mug using alcohol ink and epoxy that has different colors of purple on it and it's pretty dark but I want to add clear waterslide to it what is the best way to make the picture stand out on it

That is amazing! Courtney, I pick to watch your tumbler tutorials over anyone else’s! I love how down to earth you are! Can you please explain why sometimes you put the waterslide on with backing on bottom and sometimes on top. Do you have to print the image in mirror to do that or only if it has words? I'll help explain well I'll try. When she printed it the music notes doesn't have black behind them like the rest of the empty space. The white spray paint is what is making the music notes show up...they have to have a white background to show...the black ink keeps the white from showing on the black parts though. So the black she printed is covering up the white sprain paint except where the notes are the white is what is making those show. I really hope this helps haha If you didn't have the black ink you'd have music notes with white all around them after she sprayed it.

I'll add if you was doing it on black glitter this wouldn't work you'd see the whole outline. Whatever color tumbler it is that's the color you need to print around the words for this to work. Black is about the only one I'd really do this method with honestly.

Ok, so you mirror your image and then spray paint over the top with the white, then lay it down and the white spray pint is still face up? Because the back of my waterslide is not sticky. If that makes sense?

Awesome! Have you tried colors other than black? Would the. Color printed need to match the cup color perfectly to pull this off?

I tried your approach but when I put it on you could see the white edge. If I hand painted it and left an outline of the WaterSlide would that help it blend better? Or do you have any suggestions?

Some people like to epoxy first, I just add my water slide over top of the dried paint and then epoxy
