Fun Fact about Hemish is that the creators of Hemish actually used to work at Banila co and they decided to create their own brand. The brand was suppose to be a dupe of Banila Co but they made their formula was apparently more suitable for sensitive skin since most balms from Banila co contain mineral oil (aside from the Banilia Co Sensitive Skin cleansing balm) and according to customers the Banila co cleansing Balms sting your eye a bit even the sensitive skin one so they also made the Hemish balm formula non irritating to the eye.

I just came across this video today. I have been using the Clinique cleansing balm for years. It’s amazing! I wear a lot of makeup...primer, foundation, blush, contour, and eye makeup..the balm takes it all off! It’s breaks the makeup up nicely and leaves very minimal makeup residue on the skin. But since I double cleanse..my cleanser takes off the rest of the residue. And no it’s doesn’t come with a scooper..

Coincidentally these are the three cleansing balms I’ve used and I think the Clinique one is a bit overrated. My favourite was the Heimish cleansing balm whereas, the Banilla co was just average. I’m keen to try out the Hada Labo cleansing oil next!!

Hi Dr. Dray, after you use up the Clinique Balm in the travel size container you could scoop the Balm you like best and fill up the empty Clinique jar. This way you get the Balm you love and have use for the Clinique container. I have not tried any of these balms but definitely will give the first one a try. Hope all is well. Blessings

I've tried oil cleansers before as well as balms & Pond's cold cream *&* good ol' Crisco. Hada Labo wins, hands down. I love that after it's broken down the makeup & spf, a little water emulsifies it into a milky liquid & it rinses clean away. Then I go in with the Hada Labo sudsing cleanser or the CeraVe SA cleanser. I feel far cleaner & skin feels better than back in the days when I used either my Clarisonic or my Foreo Luna. You rock, Doc! Blessings! Jackie in NY state

I too found that the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm was difficult to spread. It was too drying for me, incredibly. I found that Pond's Cold Cream was much easier to spread and a little goes a long way to remove my sunscreen, face and eye makeup including mascara. I found that wet esthetic wipes very efficiently remove the cold cream without irritating my dry, sensitive skin. Thank you for all that you do, Andrea! :)

Hi, I have hormonal acne and would love to use a gentle cleanser, but I feel like they don’t do the job of taking off my makeup. Do you recommend using one of these prior to using a gentle cleanser as a double cleanse? Or have any other tips/ideas? I also have an oily tzone but would like to check out the la roche-posay gentle cleanser, but is says it’s for normal to dry skin? I don’t have either of those.

Both are very reasonably priced, in Canada anyway.I did not know the soap from Hada Labo, but I will give it a try. I also like from Hada Labo their hyaluronic acid lotion. I find it refreshing.

Though this is a bit of an older video at this point, I wanted to share for anyone interested that the Hemish balm was recently reformulated and no longer includes donkey milk if it is important to you for your products to be vegan. This now is. I’m not sure what else the reformulation changed. I just happen to not try it until after the reformulation and I found it to be smoother than the Banilla (which I do think works well too and used for years), not gritty in any way, so I’m not sure if that is due to the updated formula or just a personal sensation/preference on my part versus Dr. Dray. Anyways, if you are interested in this product, be aware it has been updated.

I switch back and forth between Baniila Co and Heimish and love them both. I do however wet my hands at the end and continue to massage my face, this helps to emulsify the balm. Then I rinse it clean with water several times and the water completely breaks it down. Followed by the Hada Labo foam cleanser. I am going to look for the Hada Labo cleansing oil this weekend. I am in love with the Clinique one. I’ve been using it every single day for months now and hasn’t broken me out not even once (I have acne prone skin). It doesn’t irritate my skin as well. What I realised helps best with minimising an eye sensitivity when removing make up, is that you slowly rub your eyes with a down part of the palm of your hand (if that makes sense?) instead of your fingertips. That way you melt of the makeup, but don’t get in inside your eyes (which I hate). You also have to emulsify it and follow up with a good, non stripping, fragrance free water based cleanser (for example, I use LRP Toleriane caring wash). I really like both. I am sorry you had that experience though, maybe you were just allergic to some ingredient or used it incorrectly. Hoping your skin is better now!

Then my face continued to sting for 3 days and was even itchy, red and super sensitive. I also broke out which I’m still recovering from. I did also double cleanse. Am so bummed as I really liked how it got rid of my makeup and now I’m back to square one in finding a makeup remover.

Hello Dr. Dray, if we dont have makeup on, just sunscreen, is it still necessary to use oil cleansing balms- or double cleanse? And does it work if we use sth like organic coconut oil or is it necessary to use one formulated as a cleansing balm? Because these products are expensive for me to buy, I wondered your take on the issue. Thank you

I've been using and loving the Heimish Balm for quite a while now, but I've seen a video from an influencer that says polyethylene which is one of the ingredients of the Heimish balm is not good for the skin. Would love to hear your thoughts about it, Dr. Dray :))

Haven’t heard it is bad for the skin, however there may be negative side effects on the health of marine life since this ingredient is rinsed down the drain. I am trying to find a cleansing balm without fragrance/essential oils and polyethylene. So far I’ve had no succes

Thanks for the review! I've felt overwhelmed with all the skin care choices out on the market. I'm really trying to make an effort to remove all toxic ingredients from my skincare routine as well as in the household. I have combo to dry skin and hormonal breakouts (sometimes on my cheeks too--suggested it was caused by bacteria from my phone?). I tend to get dry and tight around the area on the side of my nose/cheek. I attempted to do a straight coconut oil makeup remover (I wear foundation, blush, and eye makeup) and I immediately broke out in tiny bumps on my forehead. Guess coconut isn't for me! So, I'm exploring cleansing oils or cleansing balms. I watched both of your videos. Do you recommend one method over the other? I plan on double-cleansing. Thank you!

Dr Dray it has a different consistency. I would say thicker and stickier. I think it dissolves makeup a bit better and leaves my skin cleaner but I am probably imagining it lol. I think it is not as hydrating and thus I am confusing "tight" skin for clean. I think you can get a sample of that oil if you request their catalog or something like that.

Souffle texture. - Estée Lauder micro cleansing bAlm- very nice. High on the list and very moisturizing - clinique take the day off or whatever. I have Like 5 of those small ones I got for free.
