Had complex knee surgery - prosthetic contaminated so developed abscess.several ops to clear it _- didn’t work. Removed prosthetic & replaced with cement. Leg Strapped & no bend for 12 months. Required revision surgery to replace with complex prosthetic. Tib & Fib had to be shortened. Knee works well but grinding noises when bending/straightening. Now needing other knee sorted - but waiting until discomfort too bad! Hopefully this time the op will be straightforward!! Overall I estimate 10 bouts of surgery to get it right!!

I'm 54 and they told me when I was 40 I needed both knees replaced. I've had 3 surgeries on both knees and they told me my knees looked like a 90 yr old knee. I've had shots in the knees also. I refuse to get the surgeries done. I'm glad I have a great pain doctor that keeps my pain under control with heavy duty narcotics. It work's for me. My doctor is the best. It's the damn insurance companies that refuse to pay for my 140 30 milligram of oxycodone so I have to pay $ 300.00 every month and luckily I can still work so I can afford it. Once I'm on Medicare they will pay for the medication as long as I pick the more expensive prescription plan.

Since 2010 had to get Supartz injections in both knees for 5 weeks😢😭😢 my orthopaedic specialist said back in 2010,”Both of your knees are nooo good at All.” No cartilage in neither knees, Have meniscus tear in right knee. 2016 had an injury to my left knee horrible!! Left knee had surgery on it still nooo good. It feels like something is catching under my knee cap. I’m thinking about going to a pain management doctor. I’ll see what my orthopedic specialist says. It is an orthopedic helmet. We get ours from styler. You are probably referring to the CAPR isolation suits. Some of you are also sort of correct in the comments. These orthopedic helmets are used typically in total joint replacements because if the patient were to contract a surgical sight infection in their joint…let’s just say there is no recovering from that..so the total PPE from head to toe lessons that chance. It allows the surgical team to achieve a wider sterile range on their field. I hope that helps! Oh and I’m a Certified Surgical Technologist :)

Thats the first prep. Unsterile. Should really be done with the knee flexed up to open the micro creases on the knee . Second prep is done sterile, glove on foot held high so whole leg is prepped then leg bag followed by sterile drape fed over the foot observing aseptic technique all the time.Lower leg wrapped in crepe bandage tied off, slit cut in leg bag and Ioban film attached to knee. Total sterile enclosure.
